Akebono brake pads long-term opinions?
#16
Hi all,
My brake pads need to be changed and I'm interested in the Akebono ACT1118 because I can't take all that brake dust anymore
Everyone says how the Akebono brakes make less dust, however I couldn't find any long term reviews/opinions. I'm especially worried about screeching and other noises. I'd rather have brake dust than screeching!
Car is 2014 IS350 RWD.
I also need the pads for the rear brakes, can anyone point me in the right direction? I couldn't find the information.
Thanks.
P.S.: I need to change my front rotors, but I thought I'd take the ones from Lexus.

Been running a few different Akebono pads on a few different cars for lots of years. A few things here.
Akebono normally has 2 different version of pads that fit. One is Ceramic the other is a more Performance pad. In both cases they actually stop better than the Factory pads and last longer. Especially the Performance pads, they stop quick. They out last the Toyota/Lexus and other pads. The one exception that is little known is .... that sometimes depending on the Stock the actual Factory pads you buy from the Dealers are sometimes actually Akebonos.
I've seen lots of incorrect comments for some years now about them. So when you put on new Pads, if you put new quality Rotors too, then you have new pads and rotors. Def wont brake worst, will brake better. If you just put new pads and then compare to the old pads that had a less worn rotor, 50k miles more or less, then its the Rotor stopping power difference you feel. Not the Pads. If you turn and thin the old Rotors you def are not going to Stop as well.
As far as the noise, its Not the Pads that create, its your brake job, and lack of cleaning materials, and lubricating problem 99.9% of the time. Putting on new pads is not the cause of your noise squealing. Its metal on metal. Akebons are good stuff.
