Default Do front wheels have more brake dust than the rear?

noticed my 3 week old IS350's front wheels have substantially more brake dust than the rear. First pictures is the front wheel, second is the rear, they r the same on each side. Is this normal?

Yup. Front brakes will produce more break dust.

Replacing the stock brakes with ceramic ones will help with eliminating most of the dust.

Get some akebonos on your next front pad replacement and you won't have to deal with this.

Your front brakes do like 80% of the braking work. So if pads are the same you should definitely get more dust on the fronts.

The IS models have a heavy brake bias on the front brakes so the front rims will have more brake dust than the rears.

One way to reduce the amount of dust is to switch to ceramic pads as they will not be affected to abrasion as much as regular metallic pads. They last longer and are quieter but they are also more expensive.

Also, you can clean your rims with Meguiers Hot Rims Aluminum Cleaner which foams up and breaks down the dust so that it is easier to clean. They also sell a polish coat that will leave the rim slicker so dust won't stick as much until the next wash.

Wagner Thermoquiet's are pretty popular ceramic options. I've been using EBC Redstuff Ceramic Low Dust Brake Pads. It's about $100 for the fronts and $85 for the rears. Check www.carid.com , That's where I buy them from along with other things

The fronts are semi-metalic, so there will be more dust and faster rotor wear.
Switching to ceramic will result in less dust but also less braking power. You'll hardly notice it though.

I didn't wait for my first set of pads to wear out. The dust was terrible as you have already noticed. Like others have mentioned, the Akebono full ceramic pads are a winner. I did it myself. Very easy after watching a few you tube videos.

Most cars are front brake biased which is why you see more dust on the front wheels.
