Default How To Get Dealership To Honor Warranty

I recently purchased a 2014 IS250 with 22K miles. I'm experiencing a clunky noise (while going just above idle speed) that I haven't been able to isolate. I have no idea what's causing it. The best way I can describe it is that it sounds like flag pole on a windy day (you know, when the chain hits the flag pole). It doesn't happen at all speeds, but it seems to happen in the 10-25mph range. It's not constant, it's like "clang" and then pauses and then if I speed up a little bit it'll clang again. Once I get above 30mph, I don't hear it but I'm not sure if it's not there or if the noise is just drowned out by the higher speed.

Anyways, it's my understanding that I have a 4 year (or 50K) bumper to bumper warranty. If I take my car to the local Lexus dealership, how can I get them to honor that? Would you expect them to make it complicated for you? The car was originally sold at Lexus of Tulsa, OK. I own it in Lexington, KY. I don't have any original dealership paperwork. I would call them but I'd like to get an idea of what I might need to anticipate before dealing with them. Would you expect them to just honor it b/c it's a 2014 Lexus? (the car has not been in any accidents)
Do local dealerships have an incentive to make repairs? Do they simply report repairs to Lexus and Lexus cuts the local dealership a check?

Was the car certified? My dealer takes good care of me and covers under warranty no issue.

I didn't buy it from a Lexus Dealership's used lot. I bought it from a used "buy here pay here lot." They had it inspected at a local Toyta dealership but not at the local Lexus dealership.

If it falls under factory warranty they wont give you any issues. You need to look up the factory warranty terms.

As long as its within the 4yr/50,000miles from the the first in service date then you're covered!

^^^^ yup ^^^^

the 4/50 is a federally mandated warranty, it is not state specific and it doesn't matter if you are the first or 100th owner, they have to honor it as long as the vehicle isn't red flagged as a salvage or buy back title.

Warranty duration is NOT a federal mandate! Don't know where you got that info?! All manufactures warranty vary. Some examples...

Hyundai 5 YRS/60,000 MILES
Toyota/Honda 3 YRS/36,000 MILES
Lamborghini 3 YRS/UNLIMITED MILES

Maybe you meant national coverage?

If there is no service history and you bought it from a used car lot, good luck. Depending on what the problem is and what they deem caused the problem is if they will cover it. If there are signs that something was run over or something was previously repair/replaced by someone outside of Lexus, they will deny the warranty.

Did you not test drive the car and inspect it before you bought it? Are there any service records from the previous owner?

no, all car warranties, or any product warranty for that matter, fall under Federal Warranty Law, The length of the warranty is not mandated but the content of the warranty is Governed by Federal Law, and that is what I meant. Warranties are not state specific (though some states do add additional addendums to the federal regulations); All warranties fall under Federal Jurisdiction, and U.S. Code Title 15, Chapter 50, section 2304 sets a mandate for all vehicle manufacturers,

(a) Remedies under written warranty; duration of implied warranty; exclusion or limitation on consequential damages for breach of written or implied warranty; election of refund or replacement. In order for a warrantor warranting a consumer product by means of a written warranty to meet the Federal minimum standards for warranty—
(1) such warrantor must as a minimum remedy such consumer product within a reasonable time and without charge, in the case of a defect, malfunction, or failure to conform with such written warranty;(2) notwithstanding section 2308(b) of this title, such warrantor may not impose any limitation on the duration of any implied warranty on the product;(3) such warrantor may not exclude or limit consequential damages for breach of any written or implied warranty on such product, unless such exclusion or limitation conspicuously appears on the face of the warranty; and(4) if the product (or a component part thereof) contains a defect or malfunction after a reasonable number of attempts by the warrantor to remedy defects or malfunctions in such product, such warrantor must permit the consumer to elect either a refund for, or replacement without charge of, such product or part (as the case may be). The Commission may by rule specify for purposes of this paragraph, what constitutes a reasonable number of attempts to remedy particular kinds of defects or malfunctions under different circumstances. If the warrantor replaces a component part of a consumer product, such replacement shall include installing the part in the product without charge.

My point to the OP was that it doesn't matter where he bought the car or in what state, Federal Law requires the warranty to be honored (but doesn't specify the length) and that requirement has specific rules that have to be met.

sorry I forgot the words "to be honored" thinking faster than I type, corrected my statement.

Call Lexus head quarters and open a claim. They will assign a case manager to you and work at getting things solved. I just finished up with them and was able to get the all the work needed to be done completed and a free f-sport intake system just for the inconvenience.
