Default IS200t Transmission issue

hello everyone,

I own a 2017 IS200T with about 8000 km on it currently. I noticed since new that when I am in Park and engage Drive, the car Jerks pretty badly. The car drives fine and shifts perfect otherwise so I was wondering if anyone has noticed this before? It does not happen all the time, but often enough for me to be concerned.

thanks

I have a 2016, mines has never done that. You're under warranty so just take it in and have them inspect it.

Are you pressing on the brakes fairly well before shifting?

My 2016 200t does it too.

Its the trasmission engaging to Drive from either Park or Reverse. I normally hold the brake down till it has completed going into Drive. It has become a nuisance lately since I'm trying to figure out the sweet spot to roll into it smoothly. I've had luck by pressing a tiny bit of gas, but it's not always the same result.

Lets see if others chime in if they have the same issue.

you are shifting too fast? let the car stop completely then shift to drive. that way u won't feel the jerkiness.

In my case, the car is completely stopped when going into Drive.

My 2016 200t does the same thing as well. It happens even after the car has been warmed up, if I do press harder on the breaks you don't feel the jerk. Is this occurring for anyone else?

Yup, I've noticed this on my 17' 200t. I don't think we should worry since getting into first gear is hard in a manual car so we can cut the automatic some slack when it's just warming up.

Is your driveway slightly uphill/downhill?

Actually neither, I park in an apartment garage so I'm a perfect 180 degrees flat

Oh yeah if I drop it in drive without foot on the brake, you feel the jerk. Or if you let off the brake too soon. Trans needs a BIT of time to fully engage. Just hold the brake til it does and it's buttery smooth. It's probably just the way the torque converter is tuned to engage.

And same trans in IS350 so dont think its unique to 200T.

My IS350 it smooths in Automatic Shifts, in Manual mode unless i shift same as the car ECU otherwise yep it jerks like crazy if i drive like an *** and the car acts like the driver. Smooth shifting in manual gear 1 to 2 1500-2000RPM gear 2-3 3000RPM gear 3-4 4000RPM gear gear from 4 to 5-6 no jerk no matter what i do. Lexus did re-tuned the Transmission it fell smoother than 2nd IS350 little bit slower in shifting but i go for smooth shift than aggressive like 2nd IS.

Weird thing is, if i activate SPORT MODE no jerking in any Gear Mode, Manual nor Auto. so i always have sport mode on.

Funny, I've noticed this too on mine as well. We've owned it since beginning of the year, and it wouldn't do it at first. It seems as though with time it's gotten more noticeable. I've heard the at are notorious in Lexus for weird jerkin. Let me know if you take it to the shop and what they say, mines isn't up for inspection again until two more moths, if it continues i'll probably take it in earlier.

I've never heard of this problem on the IS350 with the 8 speed. They are supposed to be the same tranny. It seems like an isolated issue on the IS200T.
