New car with 20 miles on it. Want to get an oil change early to get new engine contaminants out of the system (been doing this with all my new cars). Been told by some, to use non-synthetic (conventional) oil for the first 1000 miles, as part of the break in process.
My question is, does Lexus use synthetic oil now on factory fresh engines? Is that why they claim 10,000 mile oil change intervals?
I was told by the salesman (could be wrong) that the break-in oil that comes with the car is a dino/synth blend for the break in. The 5000k mile change will start using full synth.
I was planning on changing the factory oil at 600 miles. I'll go full synthetic as others have mentioned throughout this site. I can't imagine going full synth will do any harm?

That's not true. 5K mile service is just tire rotation, inspections, and topping off fluids; no oil change (for non F models). Maybe your salesman is mixing his info with F cars, which use non-synthetic/dino oil.
All IS come from the factory with synthetic oil. Many cars are already "broken in" at the factory during quality testing. Idk if they replace the oil before sending the car off, but you would be fine driving on the oil from the factory until the 10K mile service. If changing the oil super early gives you peace of mind, then go ahead and do it.
All the name brand oils will be just about the same. To keep things simple, use Genuine Toyota 0W-20 w/ Toyota filter. You can also use Castrol or Mobil 1. Any differences would be splitting hairs.
10,000 miles is more than fine as recommended by Lexus.
