Yes your statement is correct. I've driven 100 miles and no reading on the dash and sometimes drive 5 miles and they show up. Never had a light. You can get programmable sensors. As long as you know the factory codes(which I do) they can be programmed into the new ones so the car doesn't know which set of wheels are on the car. When I have the stock wheels on the reading is almost instantly on
EZ Sensor is one brand that has the sensors you can clone to the OEM. I'm sure there are more brands out there.

I wish I knew about those when I got my new tires (& sensors), that would've made things easier.

My dealer refused to work with my TireRack-sourced sensors, installed in my new wheels. My plan is to go elsewhere and have them "woken up", but I haven't gotten around to it, yet.
