I have an older blackvue camera on my other car. Video quality is great, sound is meh when I'm driving only because my exhaust kinda drowns out everything else, but if I'm just sitting there with the engine off, it's actually pretty good.

it has a gps function where it can tell you where the video was taken. So in the event of an accident, you'll have proof of speed, and location. It's plenty clear enough to see license plates, and the memory is easily upgradeable.
new ones have the option of front and rear or just front cameras. My boss has front and rear on his vehicles, and loves it. Can set it to record whenever it sees motion in front of the cameras. New ones allow you to somehow view the video live remotely. I don't have that on mine, so I can't comment on that. You can watch the video live on mine, but you have to be connected via wifi which has really poor range.

downside is that it's not exactly the smallest camera. The hardwire kit is pretty pathetic, it's pretty much an adaptor for the cigarette lighter wire. It's also not what you'd call cheap. But I like it, and will probably get one for the lexus

My camera set is up is tiny and extremely stealth. and been in 3 cars in 3 hot socal summers. still never skips a beat.

I have the blackvue 650S front and rear its amazing. Wires hidden in the liner fairly easily and the video quality great even through my 35% window tints I can make out license plates out pretty clearly.

Blackvue, low profile and good quality. It's been running great in the heat and cold for 2+ years.

Do the front camera wires go down an A pillar? Hiding the wires is my biggest reason for not getting one. It would be great if cars came with cameras from the factory, or at least had a USB port in the rear view mirror for a third party camera.

I use a GoPro sessions as a dashcam. It gives a really nice look!

I have the 2 channel from Blackvue and had it installed from a local shop, they hid the wires down the panel. You can't see any wires!

I have the Kidlinks ($150) as a dash cam and YI ($50) for rear.

If I had to start over, I'd choose yi.

Kidlinks felt very cheap to me and after a few months it stopped recording on its own so in order to fix this, you had to reformat more often than not in order to get it to record again.

Both have sensors whereas if something were to happen, it would send you the last recorded event straight into your email.

Both are 1080 HD and comes with more than enough of wires. Kidlinks has more of a widescreen while Yi has the option to turn the screen off while driving (stays recording, just not the annoyance of the screen being on)

And I almost forgot, very important to many -

Yi can be viewed remotely on your phone when the car is ON to view live feed within maybe 20 feet distance. If the car is off or you are far away, you can only see the recorded saved videos (every 1,2 or 3 minutes - whatever you set it as to start a new recording)
