This article just published today, apparently the 2016 IS only got a 2nd best safety rating of Acceptable.
Subsequent revisions in 2017 earned the IS the coveted good rating. The IS received a rating of Superior due to Lexus adding the collision avoidance systems (which are now standard). So they tested the vehicle again for 2017.
The video shows very little intrusion into the driver's compartment for the 2017 Lexus IS.
Apparently the updates affects Lexus IS built after June 2017.

Interesting that they would make a mid-year change to the structure (June 2017). That's pretty late in the annual cycle considering 2018 IS are for sale now.

Hmm looks like the main reason is the PCS system in the 2017.

I'm glad I got PCS on my 2016 (pre-refresh)
