Is anyone else getting better gas mileage in Sport mode than in Eco mode?

It's like this on all the newer Lexus that I have driven in.
Yes. It could be that Eco mode limits the amount of work the HVAC system is doing. It's not documented in the manual, but I'd suggest playing with the temperature in Auto, and then turning Eco on and off. It will be considerably slower to work in Eco. I sometimes enable Eco on really hot days if the A/C is blasting too hard.

So, sure - the idle isn't going to be affected, but your observed engine speed will be. I think this was just a case of semantics honestly.

I think you're right about this. ECO mode effects the throttle so much that you end up pushing harder by accelerating more. I notice myself doing this too.

Of course it's just a matter of adjusting your driving style in ECO mode but it is noticeably slower if it isn't pushed.

I'm having some issues with fuel consumption im getting 18.2 MPG in ECO mode with mostly city driving. I think it should be better and it might be my driving style. I'm just going to drive in normal mode and see how I go with it.

Little reproducible quirk. When cold, under 25 F,
it revs high when warming up in Normal
Mode. If I just flip it to Eco, and flip it back
to Normal it revs low.

Yes! It stays low until the next time I come to a stop. Pretty odd, but useful if you don't like the higher revs when stopped.

In addition to reducing throttle sensitivity and programming shift points for fuel economy, ECO also delays the deployment of the active spoiler. While it probably makes minimal impact, the spoiler deploys at 80mph in ECO vs 50mph in every other mode reducing fuel drag and fuel consumption.

Sounds great, where do I get an active spoiler for my IS?

So when Lexus quotes mpg fuel economy figures for the various IS models, what mode is Lexus achieving these results? Eco, Normal or Sport? I'm also sure when they run these tests they have less than 1 gal in the tank to get the car as light as possible.

I noticed the same thing and was not surprised. It's not efficient to get up to speed slowly unless you have electric motors assisting you.... that's why eco mode is only good on the freeway and/or when you are going at constant speed. So for me, it's usually eco mode on freeway, sport mode around town.

I notice the same thing. I pretty much leave the car in Normal unless I am going on back roads - then I put it in Sport. I tried using Eco for a few days and just got bored of it - not to mention I didn't see any fuel economy benefit.

Sometimes when I drive in Eco Mode, I ask is this how driving a 250 feels like? Anyways, Eco mode helps a little bit for me in traffic, like stop and go, sport mode just drops my mpg.

Granted my car is a 08 ISF, but I get 3MPG better in sport over normal mode, and that is including the spirited jaunts that you want to have with a ISF in sport mode. So I don't find your suspicious unusual.

They test it in Normal mode. When the automakers perform this EPA specified test, they have to use the worst/most aggressive mode that the car can start up in. This is why the cars cannot start in SportS/SportS+ mode. If they could, then the EPA test would need to be done in SportS mode.
