BMW will release the newly designed 3 series in 2019, right? There have already been several spy shots noted. My guess Lexus would want to have the new 4th gen IS to compete against it in road tests and magazine reviews yet I'm thinking they will wait a yr after the 3 series is released so that would make it 3 series in 2019 and the new IS in 2020.

Yeah. BMW's G20 3 Series is rumored to be released late 2018 as a 2019 model.
If Lexus IS follows the same pattern as they did with this generation, it'll be a MY2021 with 2020 release. IE: The 3rd gen Lexus IS was released in 2014 - two model years after the F30 3 Series was released (2012). They will likely want to wait until the 3 Series is released in order to use the new 2019 G20 3 Series as a test mule to compare while they develop the 4th gen Lexus IS. <---This reason plus Lexus tends to run on a 7-8 year cycle is further proof that its likely a MY2021 with 2020 release at the earliest.

Seems legit to me. My bet is they debut it some time in 2019, probably late in the year. I'd guess the GS will be some time before that? It seems like the timing is about right for a new GS to be unveiled this year, seeing as how it's been through 7 model years now (2012-2018).

Based on the 1st and 2nd generations - the Lexus IS runs a 7 year and 8 year cycle. Similarly - Lexus' competition: the C-Class, 3 Series, A4, and Q50 runs on a 7-8 year cycle. Best assumption is the Lexus IS will be on another 7 - 8 year cycle as well.
This will leave it to be MY2021 (2020 release the earliest); MY2022 (2021 release the latest).

Also - if the 4th gen Lexus IS was indeed a MY2020, then there should be spy spots by now. If not spy shots, then rumors/information at the very least.
Yeah, guess we'll have to see. This sales guy has been at it 25+ years with the same dealership group (they have a few brands) and isn't the usual bs spewing hack...so there's hope he's right.

If you are talking about the Lexus IS, 2019 would be too early of a debut for the 4th gen Lexus IS. That would make the 4th gen Lexus IS a 6 year cycle car.

The Lexus IS has so far been a 7-8 year cycle vehicle and releasing after the 3 Series on a 2 year mark - using the G30 3 Series as a test mule for their development to the Lexus IS. Another factor is the Lexus GS - if indeed the GS isn't canceled, the Lexus GS will probably be a MY2020 with a 2019 release since the 2019 Lexus ES is coming out this year. <--- This will make the 4th gen Lexus IS come the following year after the GS, which is MY2021 with a 2020 release.

There are also rumors floating around LexusEnthusiasts, where someone posted the best assumption release dates. So far - its been sort of accurate. The post predicted a 2019 Lexus ES in 2018, which is happening right now.
"In October 2018, Job #1 for the 2019 ES occurs and is being developed under code 240B, utilizing GA-K. Design freeze for this vehicle was in Q2 2016."

https://lexusenthusiast.com/forums/t...ugh-2020.3173/
So far - sort of accurate.

True. We will have to wait and see.

While the sales guy might be doing business for 25+ years, that only proves hes a good salesmen rather than knowing insider Lexus details. I do not think he was spewing BS/hacky statements. I just think hes mis-informed or just going with his best guess.
