What’s wrong with my car’s lighting?
I have headlights set to auto but sometimes when it’s on and I exit the vehicle, close the door and press the lock key twice on the remote, the headlights won’t turn off, even after waiting for a while. I’d have to switch it to off manually.
Also, sometimes when I open the door, the interior lights won’t turn on. What’s wrong with my car’s lighting?

You may have a door not closed all the way or a door ajar switch failing. When your car does not turn the headlamps off check to see if the door ajar indicator is on the gauge cluster. If it is not on open the door and make sure it comes on.

If it was the door, the car would chime to let him know he's trying to lock the car with the doors open, right?

This is true it should also show the door ajar light in this instance IIRC.

Only if he is using the touch sensor on the door. OP claimed hitting the lock button on his fob. Also if the door switch is stuck the car will never see the door open this could also cause the symptoms described (however I think pressing the lock button twice turns the lights off in the instance).

How long is "a while"?
There is a setting in the console that let you set the timer of when the lights will turn off.
Maybe it is set to the longest duration, which I think is 3 minute. Check it out.
