Only on the 3.5L and the 2.0L. The 2.5L is a pure direct injection without port injectors regardless of what revision was made to the 4gr-fse.

Not entirely true. The 2007-2015 IS250 AWD was a 2.5L and the 2006 GS300 was a 3.0L. The new AWD 300’s are detuned 2GR-FSE’s.

So what revision did they make to prevent carbon build up?

Recommended strong oils? or reducing service intervals?

I cant seem to find their fix?

They could not figure out why it was effecting Explorers and not the trucks, and what was causing so much carbon build up on the valves they would in extreme cases misfire. Well, most of the Ecoboost testing was hard core, wide open throttle abuse and they never did any long term testing of overtly gentle use, as with any if not all manufacturers. Basically the average Explorer driver was just creeping over to the store, dropping the kids off, and going through short and very gentle trips, while the F-150s were getting driver significantly harder. These cars were in cold environments and on short gentle drives were commonly not even reaching operating temp. Durability testing for cars in most cases consists of trying to simulate years of hard abuse in a short period of time, which does not test the conditions of the gentle driver. I imagine it is no different for Lexus in this case. Long story short DRIVE YOUR CARS HARD PEOPLE.
ive learnt these from BMW Drivers lol , They called it ITALIAN TUNED ! but keep in mind , Carbon build up will always be . THERE IS NO 100% FIXED ONLY REDUCE, ive owned an IS250 2nd gen before and never had Carbon issue, those guys said because i drove the car like Crazy always go WOT, therefore Carbon don't survive !

Ive talked about this in 2nd Gen IS forum 2 years ago ! the only way to get 99% carbon issue fix is BUY an IS350 .

They updated the rings\pistons on the 2011+ to reduce the issue. It doesn't prevent, just reduce.

My point was that between 2017 and 2018, the 200t became the 300 and the AWD models didn't change. The 300 AWD was a detuned 2GR-FSE in 2017 and it still is in 2018.

Of course there are other models that were AWD before that such as the GS300 with the 3GR-FSE and the IS250 AWD with the 4GR-FSE, but they are not related to what was being discussed relating to the renaming of the 200t to the 300 for RWD models.

I think only the GS has the FKS in RWD don't know for sure. I don't believe we will see the FKS in the IS until 4th gen.

All GS350s (RWD and AWD) have had the FKS since MY 2016.

Confirmed both the IS300 AWD and IS350 (AWD and RWD) have the FKS for 2018:

You are correct. The 2GR-FSE was replaced by the 2GR-FKS for both the IS300 AWD and IS350 for 2018. Should have just said 2GR.

That makes me think we will not see a 4th gen IS until 2020MY now as doing a engine change for only a one year run sounds like a bad move.

Remember that the 2IS ran for 8 model years (2006 - 2013). Hopefully they don't let the 3IS go as long, but if they do, that would mean we won't see a new model until 2022 (3IS from 2014 - 2021).

Gives them time this Gen to throw that new twin turbo 3.5 in the car and call it an IS-F.
