Default Wheel/Tire Fitment Question

I had a quick question for the wheel gurus, and YES i scrolled through ALL 87 pages of the wheel thread to find out more info...
Down springs
19x10 +42 in the rear
Will a 265/35/19 or a 255/35/19 fit without rubbing?

i know a lot of guys on here run 30s in the rear... but i would like some more meat if possible.

It depends on tire brands as well. Some 265 will be meatier than some other brandś 265 FYI.

I'l have to check my setup (don't remember my offset in the rear) but I think you'll have issues.

I had a 19x9.5 and it was to wide, rubbed on dips and hard turns. They didn't make the offset I needed so I had to settle for 8.5 on all corners. Haven't had any issues since.

Edit: I also have RSR downs installed

Both will fit, obviously the 255 will give you that added piece of mind clearance should you load the vehicle up with people or stuff.
To keep rolling circumferences relatively the same, consider what tire you are putting on the front...you want them to be close as possible as to not upset any vehicle systems.

So 19x9.5 +35 offset on Mich Pilot SS 265/35 was a no go for me.

Was that on the front? Cause the original post was just regarding the rear.

Rear, AWD. Now that I think about it, I probably had a 255 in the rear on the 9.5s. They're still in the garage, been meaning to sell them.

If it was the rear, then it was likely a 255/30/19 or 265/30/19.
I think what did you in there is the offset. +35 would have rubbed for sure. If you had a +38 or higher, it would have cleared even on Downs.
Sometimes a few millimeters can make the world of difference...not to mention the right shaped tire (curved sidewall with a narrower tread)

Agreed.

The Pilot SS tires have a pretty square profile. Just sharing my own experience. I edited my above post but the rear wheel/tire that did not work for me was a 19x9.5 on 265/35. He's looking to go another half inch wider which could be troublesome but I'm no expert. I'm AWD and happy I ended up with a squared setup even though it was not my first choice.

It's a toss up between what's appropriate for the rim and what fits the vehicle.
265/35/19 would be appropriate for the 10" wide rim, but might have issues when you load the vehicle.
255/35/19 would be a better fit for the vehicle.
1/2 inch wider is approx. 12.7mm., but that is about approx. 6.35mm added to the outside and inside of the rim.
+35 vs +42 is a difference of 7mm...so the overall the difference between your fitment and his is 0.65mm
Take that 0.65mm and add a tire with a narrower tread pattern than the Pilot SS, a rounder sidewall, and in a 255/35, and it should clear.
Also, you have to account for when that now compresses over a dip or bump, that slight clearance multiplies when the wheel starts to camber in as it rises.
My head hurts now lol
