Why do our OEM tires perform bad but are so expensive?? Help finding a replacement!
My rear right tire recently went flat on my 2015 IS350 AWD F-Sport and it can't be patched up since the hole is on the side wall. I was looking up the exact same replacement for the tire, and I think this is the one (correct me if I'm mistaken)
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Turanza+EL400-02&frontTire=24WR8EL40002&rearTire=535WR8EL40002&vehicleSearch=true&fromCompare1=yes&autoMake=Lexus&autoYear=2015&autoModel=IS%20350%20F%20Sport&autoModClar=AWD
The price of $300 for one tire and it's poor performance scores just makes me wonder
1. Why is this tire so expensive?
2. Why is it on our cars?
I'm hoping to get this tire as a replacement, since it's much cheaper and has better performance. Could anyone tell me if this will be the proper fit? Thanks

Those links don't work for me.
However, I have looked up reviews on the Turanzas before. They're not great, to put it one way. You should be fine to replace with the Michelin PS4S as long as you stick with the sizes of 225/40R18 front and 255/35R18 rear (assuming you have the stock wheels).
As for why, maybe Toyota/Lexus have some kind of deal/contract with Bridgestone? My previous Camry had the same tires.

I wouldn't expect all seasons of any brand to perform all that great in terms of grip/feel. On the west coast, at least my car, we got high performance summer tires installed stock. Very very strong performance. So you may want to move up a class if you don't see a lot of snow.

I switched to Pirelli P Zero All-Season Plus and couldn't be happier. Stickier, quieter, better handling, better isolation from road imperfections and cost $800 for all four instead of $1200 for the Bridgestone Turanzas. Only downside is smaller lip at the wheel so gotta be extra careful of curbs now.
