Has anyone tried to run square using four 18x8.5 +50 OEMs? What size spacer is needed to clear the calipers? 10mm?

Sorry, just to clarify

This is for a 350/300/200T caliper not the smaller IS250 found on the 2014/15s.

I few years back I was getting tires mounted and the 225/40/18 were accidentally mounted on a rear wheel. It kept hitting the caliper until we realized what went wrong.

Did you actually try this? If not I am going to test fit again when I put my winters on this week.

I haven't done it myself, but other members have.
Any yes, I was referring to the large calipers, not the IS250 calipers...literally any rim will clear 250 brakes.
The OEM F Sport rims realistically have the same clearance front and rear.
18x8 +45 will have the same clearance as 18x8.5 +50.
Yes the 8.5 is technically 12.7mm wider, which is 6.35mm on the outside and inside...minus the +5 offset difference, which leaves you an additional 1.35mm of clearance.
Some members have also done the 18x8 +45 on the rear as well...but again, anything will clear the rear.

I'm not sure what rubbing issue you had (in terms of where it was rubbing exactly), but I would suggest test fitting it again yourself to see.

Yes, I have put the rear wheels (8.5 x 18 +50) from my 2014 IS350 on the front (while trying to diagnose some tire noise issue). Cleared the calipers, and I drove it that way for a bit.

Looking at our first IS (used) several newb questions.

Budget wise shopping 2015-2018

MPG is important but would like enough power to merge in traffic but not looking for a track car. Looking at style, amenities and reliability

Would you recommend 200T 250 300 350. Also is there any particular options to avoid or must haves?

We are use to remote start, apple car play, led lights and I can’t confirm if these are standard or options? It does seem heated/cooled seats, sunroof, are mostly standard?

Thanks

RWD or AWD? If RWD, the 350 is what you want. If AWD, the 300 or 350 have the same engine (3.5L V6, same as the RWD 350) and both of them have the same amount of power up to the top end of 2nd gear (60 mph), possibly to the end of 3rd gear as well. I have driven an IS300 AWD and it felt just as strong pulling to 100 kmh as my IS350.

There are no options I can think of to avoid. Mark Levinson is a must have for the sound system. 2017 and below had the 2GR-FSE V6 engine, 2018 and above got the slightly revised 2GR-FKS V6 which is supposed to get better fuel economy when driving on the highway and other low load situations.

I'm pretty sure all of them have LED headlights and taillights. Don't know about remote start. AA and AC only appeared on the 2021 models, so you're either going to have to mount your phone over the middle air vent with a Proclip like a savage, or get an aftermarket system to add AC.

GNS thank you for the detailed info, cost wise probably the RWD. This will be a third vehicle commuter etc. We have been Toyota 4Runner and Tacoma owners and loved the reliability.

We will look towards 2018 if we find the right deal. Also the sound system would be nice.

Savage vent clip that’s hilarious yeah def would need to swap that out or just deal w no CarPlay

Thanks Again

I have the Proclip for my IS350 and it actually doesn't go into the air vent slats, it clips around them into the trim (ie. the mount has a C-shaped part). Hands down the best phone holder for the IS350, and solid ABS too (milled in Sweden by Brodit). I can do practically anything I need to, almost as if I have AA. The navigation voice prompts still play over Bluetooth btw.

I would add that, for the absolute best fuel economy and for the budget-conscious, the IS 300 RWD (nee IS 200t) with the turbo four cylinder also does well for itself. Some folks in my local club claim to enjoy the low-end torque of the turbo engine more as well.

However, I would also add that I think the V-6 engine in the IS 350 is well worth swinging for. You get nearly as much low-end torque as the 300 RWD while having much higher high-RPM output, and all the while, the engine has a more distinctive sound and only slightly worse fuel economy. For me the IS 350 RWD is the way to go.

arentz07 Great points

Today we hit a few dealerships, and wow that has to be the most comfortable drivers seat I’ve sit in everything fit like a glove.

The only we we got seat time in was 300 AWD V6 and was impressed. With our daughter driving it occasionally and 4 seasons of weather I think the AWD would prob be worth it.

I really like the grill in the F Sport, is the bumper cover the same? Would the grill swap. Or would that be a slap in the face poser move? LoL

Again thanks for the info, it’s def helped

The front bumper is actually completely different on the F Sport. So, you'd have to swap the entire bumper cover.

IMO I think it's fine to put F-Sport-inspired items on a base car - as long as you don't put the actual badge.

I owned a 2016 IS 300 AWD F Sport, and it was great. The practical advantage of going RWD over AWD is fuel economy, but also, you're getting the more up-to-date 8-speed auto instead of a 6-speed in the AWD car. The 6-speed is fine for what it is, but it definitely isn't as quick to shift as the 8-speed. Having said all that, the AWD model is great to drive in the winter. You can see from the following photo I used to have a little snow-driving fun in that car!

I think it's common for AWD capability on cars to be overrated - a good set of tires will go a long way if not farther to improving a car's abilities in the winter - but if you think it'll be useful where you live, it's probably a good idea.

arentz07I had assumed they had the same trans, thanks for pointing that out. I like the idea of the 8 speed.

Bumper cover swap is more than I’d want to invest LoL

After thinking about it we really don’t need AWD we have two Jeeps

That AWD pic looked like fun in the snow tho!

Are all IS300 V6 ?

I’m thinking 2015 or newer IS300 RWD. Options we like cooled/heated seats, lane assist, and these wheels

The 300 RWD is a turbo four cylinder. Prior to 2018, it was known as the IS Turbo or the IS 200t.

AWD 300 or any 350 model will have the V6.

Thanks for clarification

So I think I’ve figured it out lmao

IS300 RWD 4cyl turbo 8 speed
IS300 AWD 6cyl 6 speed
IS350 RWD AWD larger 6cyl 6 speed

Appreciate the help!
