Hey everyone, I know you IS guys are probably tired of me going back and forth. Here’s the deal: My wife needs a new car now (her Honda lease is up) and I can’t decide between 2 options. Looking at a:
CPO 2015 Lexus CT 200h F sport (no nav) - 24,000 miles for $25.7k OTD
or
2018 Lexus IS 300 F sport for $380/mo with 0 down for 36 month lease. $13400 over 3 years.
We really wanted the new Lexus UX but the timing doesn’t work for us as it’s not available til December. I was thinking of leasing the IS because in 3 years we could buy a CPO UX.
Leasing an IS for 380/mo for 36 mo = $13400 and then buying a CPO Lexus UX in 3 years would in total cost $38400 (I’m estimating a used UX would be $25,000 for 30k miles). So in 6 years from now we would have a 66k mile car (assuming 12k per year). I’m using 6 years into the future as an arbitrary timeline.
However we also know the CT is a great car (we’ve leased one before), albeit discontinued and a lot older. The total cost in 6 years would be $25700 and I’m estimating the car would have 96,000 miles.
So which is a better decision? Thanks!!

The cool thing the UX gets the same mileage as the CT but taller, a bit larger, and a bit roomier. And lots of new tech and i assume quite a bit safer (not that the CT wasn't safe).
I'm also considering the same 3 cars when my lease is up too. New IS300, used CT200h and call it a day (super economical, unlimited reliability, nearly 0 maintenance costs), or wait for the new UX.
I love the grip and handling of the IS. I like driving efficiently (aggressively) but i don't like the 19 mpg i'm getting. this 4 cylinder guzzles so much gas and it's not even fast.

If only Lexus puts the LC500h powertrain into an IS... wow. dream car. that car gets like 30mpg avg and is 700 lbs heavier than our IS. and is really quick.

Knowing Toyota if they do put in the LS500 motor they will certainly de-tune it in the IS sedan, unless we are talking about the mythical 2nd Gen ISF. I agree with you regarding the IS200T, it drinks too much gas for a 4 cylinder. Next time I'm getting an IS350.

As a prior CT owner and current IS and LS owner, I really long term, would still pick the CT.
I still miss that car to this day. That thing was damn near bulletproof.

Also consider they are two VERY different kinds of cars. Ultimately, what does your wife want? Does she care about performance and style (get the IS) or does she care more about fuel economy and comfort (CT). However, getting a newer car without nav might be tough to sell in a few years. Most who get a newer Lexus want a nav system nowadays.
