Got this check engine light today and I thought of the gas cap right away...(was freezing my butt off at the gas station a few days back with only a tshirt on in this NY weather, don’t yell at me lol)
it turns out that it was really the loose gas cap, it’s now tightened...
anyone knows if the light needs to be reset or it will be gone eventually?

It might clear on it's own after the self test runs enough times, but chances are you will need to get is cleared.
Any basic obd II scanner should be able to clear it.

My check engine light came on for the same thing. Bad gas cap. I bought a new one, and after about 4 or 5 days the light went off. It will go off on it's own, just might take a few days.

I'm hoping that it clears itself...don't want to go to the dealership and spend the whole day over a loose gas cap...thanks anyways

I'm sure that the gas cap is good though...just that i forgot to tighten it after putting gas in 2 days ago (gas cap jumps right out when I opened the cover and checked today)
Thanks

I remember this happened in my 2010 Toyota Corolla.. Engine Light, VSC, and traction control all on.. tightened gas cap.. went away.. few months later.. oxygen and fuel sensor needed to be replaced ($600-800 cost)

Honestly, I HIGHLY doubt your O2 sensors are going bad at the age of the car. It’s possible, but I don’t think it’s likely. Even people with a 2014 shouldn’t have O2 sensor problems yet.
