Question USB power from the center console for IS 250

I've noticed that my phone charges slowly when connected to the USB port in the center console. I've always assumed this was par for the course with most vehicles however I was recently renting a Kia Sorento and noticed that I was able to charge my phone much faster with the USB port there. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just an issue with my 250?

It’s by design. Lexus didn’t increase the amperage until later model years. Get a 12v usb charger for faster charging.

Nah, it's all of our cars. The USB ports take forever to charge my phone and I have a 2018, it probably doesn't help that I have the iPhone Xs Max due to the large size of the battery. Your best bet is to buy a car charger.

A car charger like this:

I didn't see a place to connect that in the center storage compartment - just two USB ports and an audio connector. Is there a port for that somewhere else?

It’s right next to the USB ports in the center compartment unless your model didn’t come with one which would be super weird.

USB port in cars is a data port. Charging speed at data port is much slower than a port that is dedicated to charge only.

Get one that has dual usb outlets and states " dual 3A" so that even your ipad can be charged simultaneously. Do not get one that has only one 3A and the other 1A.. i would agree to get a quality cigarette charger as these can be easily transferred onto next car or be brought overseas to use on a rental.

Ah! You're right. I have something in there and it was right against the cover so I haven't noticed it for the past year or two.

Good idea! Thanks for the suggestion. Really wish the data port had enough amperage for charging too!

Hi thank you for the post. Does it works for the 2007 Lexus RX 350? I was actually trying to find a cap forthright cigarette lighter but after seeing your post that is a good idea. Do you know if Amazon sells it. I apologize I don’t know anything about cars. 😁

Hi, that was a years-ago post and since then, it would be better to get dual USB-C like
this this
that has PD and can do very quick charge but be careful not to overload the fuse of the cigarette lighter.

You’re so kind thank you. Is that compatible with 2007 Lexus RX350? Does it goes on that cigarette lighter in front of the center console. Thank you for your patience.
