Angry Dealer screwed up instrument cluster lens, paint

Hi friends,

I recently purchased an L Certified 2015 Lexus IS 250, Black. I noticed when the sun hits the instrument cluster, the lens is so scratched up in so many different ways I can barely read the gauges. I generally don't trust dealers to treat a car like their own, so I want to replace this part on my own. Where is the best place to procure the part? Additionally, does anyone know of any instructional posts/videos that could help me with this?

As far as the paint... the swirls and marring are just unreal. The dealer slapped some wax on it before I bought it so I couldn't really tell. (People are trash) I am just going to pay $500 after the winter to have the paint corrected and sealed.

As an aside, why are car dealers in the US so sketchy and terrible? I much prefer the corporate-owned Tesla business model....at least there's some semblance of quality control.

Many thanks!

It's a 2015. It was probably screwed up before the dealer even took it in.

I tend to agree with the above poster that the lens damage was done by the previous owner, and not the dealer.

I thought this thread looked familiar. Here's why:

I'd raise these issues with the delearship if it's not too late. Most of the time there's a grace period where you can change your mind on things. In the previous thread you said you were pretty happy with the car in spite of the issues, but sounds like you might have changed your mind?

That may be, but I've never had a positive experience with a dealer and their "Detailing shop"...

In any event, it doesn't seem like anyone has much experience with this so I'll check with the dealer when I take her in for an oil change

the lens cover scratches are usually from using something too abrasive to clean it. Paper towels or shop towels will definitely scratch the clear plastic. If you are considering replacement anyway, you can try using a plastic scratch remover (PlastX), or just rubbing compound and some polish, same as you would use on paint.

As for the swirls in the paint, I would say most dealers will throw a coat of wax on a car to hide imperfections and give it that new car gloss/shine, which fades away in a few months or a wash or two. Most will not do a paint correction unless necessary. For a couple hundred bucks you can probably take it to a detailer for a basic correction (maybe some spot corrections on the marring), and they can probably take care of the gauge cluster too.
