I wonder if it's even possible to get 2017 and up screen into the older cars

Easy, put an ipad in front of the screen and be done with it. Mounted my phone on a magnetic thingy, and with hands free siri I'm not really willing to spend all that much to upgrade the infotainment system. I used to want screen mirroring but whats the point if my iPad fits perfectly in front of the screen, just turn on bluetooth.

There is a huuuuuge thread on here about this. But I think the end result is that it's about the same price to just trade in your older IS for a used 17+. You have to really love your specific car to do this, unless parts get cheaper.

there is a $1000 option for a full android 10.25" media replacement system.

Doesn't it have some key missing functionality? Do voice commands work? Do all the steering buttons work? Does the joystick/trackpad work? The screen is too far away in the 3IS to be using it as a touch screen IMO

When I asked the service manager at my oil change (lexus dealer) last month if there were any updates coming for the 2016 IS w/o nav, he said there wouldn't be updates until the 2019 is released. Not sure if he really knows anything or not.... but I'm hanging onto some hope that they'll eventually update the software and gracenote database.
