Default Dark spots on wheels after wheel repair

Hi, so I had some curb rash on 2 of my wheels and I had both fixed. One rims paint is perfectly fine while the other seems to have 2 dark spots on the edges. I took it back to the person who did the job on my wheels and he said the 'hyper finish' faded? (Not sure what that means). He wanted an additional $30 to correct the paint. He asked me if I went through a car wash with acid but the car wash I go to says they haven't used acid in years. He also instructed me not to go to a car wash for 2-3 weeks and I didn't go after a month. Just wanted a second opinion, did they mess up the paint when they were fixing the rim?

Edit: These are not shadows, those are 2 edges / spots where the wheel appears darker.

Swaangin,

My .02 cents.. I had wheels repaired on two cars.. ( RX 350 and SC 430 ) both came out
fine.. It has been several years on the RX and no sign of any problems.
IF one of your wheels was damaged at the car wash, why wasn't the other
wheel damaged?

I believe the repair is a multi step process:
fix the "rash", paint, and seal it.. Simply painting over the "dark spots" may not resolve the problem..
I suggest you go back and ask them to do whatever it takes to make it right.. After all, they got
one wheel repaired correctly, why not the other one?

I hope they resolve this for you.

Al

Thanks a lot, I'll try to see if he does it for free but he wanted $30 to fix it.. not sure if I want to pay even more money if they messed it up in the first place..

Just going to throw this guy $20 for fixing it thanks @alruner , I told him what you said and I feel like he was more understanding.

That shouldn't have happened. If I had to pay to have that repaired, I'd pay someone else.

Yeah the pics disappeared. Weirdness. There were pics, I promise you

Suffice it to say, looks like the wheel finish was tarnished by something. And it's interesting the person who did the work admitted the finish was messed up.

Yeh, I have to recommend Wheels America too (in the north Chicago suburbs). Years ago, on another car I had a wheel that hit 2 potholes putting 2 bends in it, and no other place would touch it.
They saved the wheel. I don’t know about their refinishing ability, as I only had them straighten the wheel.
For refinishing, got to recommend Crown Customs & Coatings in Elk Grove Village, IL. Had them powder coat 3 sets of wheels, came out great.
