Default 2015 IS 250 trunk leaking water after rain

Hi so I've went to the dealership about this multiple times, when I open my trunk after it rains, I would say (quantity: 1/4 of a plastic water bottle) pours out from the right HINGE (covered by black plastic) pours out into my trunk. I noticed this happened after a car wash too, I took it to the dealership multiple times and they said they ran a "water" test but nothing happens. They cleaned the seals but it's still happening and I have no idea what to do about it. Any suggestions?

My suggestion if you want to find the leak yourself:

1. Fold down the back seats
2. Climb into trunk with a flashlight (either through the trunk or from inside the vehicle, since the seats are folded down)
3. Have a second person outside with a garden hose running water down the rear windshield on the passenger side so it gets onto the trunk (worst case if you're alone is tape the hose to the rear windshield)
4. Patiently wait for it to start leaking

I would bet money that was the dealer "water" test

Does your car have the trunk spoiler?

They said they ran the test for "hours" and found no leak so I was surprised that it still happened but yeah I'll try it.

What it sounds like to me is that the spoiler is leaking, into the inner trunk lid, then when you open it, the water rushes forward and out the hinge area... maybe?

Good point Joker!
@swaangin Run the water over the spoiler too as Step 3 (a)

I'd be hard pressed to think a factory spoiler is leaking, but anything is possible.
A dealer add-on of aftermarket, yes I could see a leak. Human error is human error.

If it is the spoiler leaking, what should I do? Is that covered under warranty repair?

Should be covered under the 4 year/80K warranty...that's 80K kilometers...so whatever that is in miles for you guys in Trump land.

But I would be REALLY surprised a factory spoiler is leaking on a 4 year old car.

Unless it was dealer installed and they didnt do it right. I'd open the trunk and pull the inner liner off of the trunk lid and see if it is wet, or if you can see water somewhere.

That's true.
I saw above I made a grammar error, should have been "dealer add-on or aftermarket".
That's the part where I would agree with you that human error is human error...and it may leak.
But the OP said it was factory installed, so I'm having that blind confidence in the factory lol

Hi,
Has anyone found the source for the water leak?

I'm about to buy a 2017 is300 and as I was examining the car after it rained, the black plastic around the trunk hinge, on the driver side, was filled with water and poured into the trunk when I opened it.

The car has no spoiler, so a spoiler leak is ruled out.

The car is at a dealership (not a Lexus dealership), so I can't speak to the previous owner to see if it's a recurring problem.

There does not seem to have any rust or water in the trunk other than that.

I really hope that it's an easy fix because the rest of the car is perfect.
