Default Door Edge Rust

I bought my car with this rear door edge paint chip. As you guys can see someone clearly kept hitting something and one of the times took off a pretty big piece of paint. I had touched it up when I bought the car but feared it will begin to rust overtime and it has.

Any suggestions on how to fill in the paint and prevent the rust from spreading?

Personally, I would have it professionally addressed. Any cleaning up and touching up you do will be a band aid with lots of room for it to come back. I would get a quote from a reputable body shop.

Nah you don't need a pro to "fix" that.

You just scratch out the rust thoroughly, and go slightly past to be thorough using a paint pen with a scratching tip. Then paint over several thick coats and use the built in clear.

Use this and you'll be golden. Go around the entire car.

You really only should go "pro" if it's a large area of rust. But on something like a chip, that's baby cakes handled in 5 minutes.

to piggy back off of this suggestion.
get yourself a glass fiber pen to help "sand" down a circle.
once its past the rust you can just apply the paint pen.

Sounds like a good idea. I wonder if that's the same as on the paint pen i linked? It's also white in color and very very abrasive. i've sanded down some rock chips that had rust under and used it on a friends car that had rust spots due to rock chips. Made quick work of the rust. really scratchy.

Thanks! Will give this pen a try and hopefully can get a thick coats on it to help make it less noticeable.

Yeah just rub it in a circular motion until all traces of rust are gone. then wipe with rubbing alcohol after and let evaporate (happens in a second) before applying paint.
