Back to the OP's post. Honda/Acura hasn't gone with direct and port injection so not sure if current models will suffer from Carbon buildup.

I have owned many many Acura products since 2006 ->
2007 TSX
2009 TSX
2012 TL
2013 RDX
2014 ILX

and then the TLX came along and it all ended for me. I moved over to Lexus and never had any issues, although my Acura were very good too. I doubt that I'll go back to Acura and while I prefered the suspension tuning of the Acura, they have way too many issues lately and I lost confidence in the brand.

I had a 02 TL Type-S. The transmission expired around 120k miles. I'll stay with Toyota and Lexus for a while.

The 2IS was just as nice as the 04-08 TSX and TL back in the day. After that, Lexus built better cars.

Would definitely consider Acura cars, even current ones. The rdx is a home run and puts the nx and rd to shame. Mdx is great too. Tlx not as nice as an IS but would pick it over any IS that's not a 350. But fit and finish not nearly as nice as higher end Lexus vehicles. If they use the same paint process as mainline Honda then it is atrocious too. Every Honda vehicle in my family from 04 to 10 has clear coat delamination and rust in the wheel Wells

I sold my 3G TL to get my IS350. Honda and Acura use to be top dog when it came to reliability, but they have slipped fast into the lower ranking spots. Not to mention, Acura is a little anemic on power, and seems to have no interest on improving. Numerous transmission problems and paint problems over the last few years. Do a quick search of "most reliable cars"... Click several different links. Every one will have at least 3-5 toyota products on them, most of which are in the top 5.

All good points, everyone!

That post of 'JD Power 2018 Vehicle Dependability Study' further backs up my gut feeling to try Lexus this time around...it's a shame that Acura has fallen off into those lower rankings.

we were Honda/Acura fans as well in the 2000's but once designs got ugly, false real world mpg ratings and transmission issues, we switched over as well. Toyota/Lexus vehicles provides the best of all worlds IMHO. Some people like the aggressive f-sport big mouth grills, some don't. I LOVE THEM. 2-2.5 years as Lexus and Toyota owners, I have no regrets with my IS350 and the wife have no regrets with her RX350.

i have the pleasure of owning both an acura and a lexus (see my signature). both have been stellar in terms of reliability and i have no complaints, not even minor ones! good luck in your car search!

p.s. pardon the messy garage.

2016 acura ilx a-spec and 2014 lexus is 250 f-sport

I'm more surprised that Honda is ranked so low on this chart. I would expect them to be between 2-4. Kind of wanna question the reliability and sources of these ratings.

I don't think Honda or any manufacture makes cars like they used it. Prior to 2008, I could see Honda being up there as one as one of the top.

I hate to admit this, but Honda/Acura have fallen off. Many years ago they were neck and neck with Toyota/Lexus, but not anymore. I hate saying that because I'm a Honda fan, really, from way back, but the quality of Lexus just can't be ignored.

What makes it worse is that when I went to buy a new TLX last year, it just didn't impress me, and I liked the IS so much more.

The nail in the coffin? I got a better deal on the IS than I could have gotten on the TL.

Done.

And I have to say, the refinement level of the IS is a massive improvement.

Honda/Acura cars I've owned:
- '98 Civic EX (5 years)
- '01 Honda S2000 (3 years)
- '03 Civic EX (3 years)
- '07 Acura TL (11 years)
