gas tank lid pops open when locking doors
hello everyone.
Has anyone ever experienced their gas tank lid popping open when locking the doors? I couldn't find any old posts about this.
thanks

There's a recent thread about this making a clicking sound when locking. Mine is subject to that as well but have not had it pop open.
Still, issue probably the same.
When you lock the car, the gas door locks as well.
It's locked by a little pin that pops Into place securing the door. Sometimes this becomes miss aligned and the pin does not find it's place correctly.
For me, the issue was the cord attached to the gas cap. Insure that cord is not bent outward preventing the door from fully closing. It may look closed but that cord if wrapped incorrectly will get in the way. Take the gas cap off and unwind the plastic cord if needed. Put back into place and I sure cord is curved nicely (along the bottom of the cap I think) and out of the way.

Mine did this as well. I took it to Lexus as it was still under the full warranty. They said it needed to be adjusted, so they did that. That didn't fix the issue. They ended up replacing the whole door assembly and had to do some welding. That fixed it, and I haven't had any issues since then. That was 3-4 years ago. What year is your car, and do you still have the full warranty?

this happens because the gas cap wire gets tangled and is not sitting properly, you have to make sure the wire goes UNDER the gas cap in a counter clockwise direction so the lid wont pop open
