Default turning/circling with steering wheel turned all the way

Not sure how to describe this but does anyone else have any issues turning with their steering wheel turned all the way to one side or the other? I don't do this often but the other day, I had to turn the wheel all the way to the left and started to turn around but the car was just all out of whack. I heard a clinking sound, the turn wasn't smooth, it felt as if the tires just couldn't grab the road. I wasn't going fast at all so it wasn't anything due to speed. I did the same thing and turned the wheel all the way to the right and it's the same thing. I'm not sure what it is or if something is broken but i wanted to see if anyone else has this issue and if so, what was the cause and fix for it.

The tires don't make even contact with the ground when the wheel is turned all the way, and they might "scrub" along the ground while turning. The clinking sound... could that be the brake rotors contacting the dust shield? I've had that happen to me once, and it was easily fixed at the dealer (no charge, it's literally just moving the dust shield).

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I've had other cars and that didn't happen on those cars...hopefully it's just a lexus thing. lol.

The tires - probably just an IS/GS/RC thing. Something about the suspension geometry gets weird when you turn the wheel to full lock.

The brake rotors - absolutely could happen on any vehicle. I also had it happen on my wife's car more recently after she got it back from the body shop. The dust shield was a bit crooked due to an accident she was in, and was scraping the brake rotor.

Normal. Ackermann steering geometry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ackerm...ering_geometry

Common on cars with sportier intentions. You'll note many Porsche models do this as well due to being setup similarly.

normal to get two angles going due to dual balljoint front king pin. so you can get more turny turns in an overall smaller space. germans been bangin that design for decades. old news bears. you'll notice it in transporter 1 as the 7 series rolls through the parking garage at low speeds and the tires go wwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

I used to suffer from the same exact issue. Took it to the dealer twice even when the car was new and they confirmed that everything is fine. Brakes, rotors, ball joints, suspension, everything is ok. First time when car had only 1000 miles then again when it had 30,000 miles. They tell me there is nothing wrong and the car is behaving as it should. My old 170,000 miles honda civic didn’t do this and I’ve driven my share of cars and none were even as noticeable as this. After reading this forum and others mention the geometry and such and while its all true, it still didn’t make enough sense why it’s very noticeable. I just learned to live with it as it only happens during extreme turns. Finally, I figured it out. It turned out to be the tires that came with the car. Turanza EL400 Worse tire ever... I purchased the Falken Azenis FK510 after thorough research and I couldn’t be happier. It got rid of the issue you spoke of, improved the grip and cornering and the car is more stable while driving at high speeds all while the tires being quiet. Even my braking distance seems to have been improved. The only down side is that I lost about 1 mpg. But the trade off is worth it on so many levels.
