When I park in my garage, often need to check if I have the car positioned correctly before I turn the engine off. The sequence of steps is:

- Pull into garage
- Put car in park
- open drivers door to check positioning of car
- If car position OK, with door still open, turn off ignition

At this point the car gives me a warning tone. I'm not sure why. If I close the door and then turn the car off, no warning tone. Any ideas?

If there is a warning chime of some kind then you should see some sort of text/light on the dash.
Do you see any lights/messages on the instrument cluster?

Sometimes if I shut the car off, it gets confused and says "Shift into P when parked" even if I am already in P. I think there's a slight delay for the car to catch-up and figure out what gear it's in.

Not sure if that's the same thing you are seeing, but it's the only warning chime I remember getting.

Thsts completely normal in this car. Its letting you know so you dont leave a car door open and walk away. Of course in this case it's the driver door, which you are obviously aware of. But if a passenger door was ajar you would want to kno . Should show up on the dash too. You can probably turn that off. I turned off my headlight on warning beep and seatbelts warning beep.

Same with windows or moonroof, but no beep/chime, just tells you on the dash your leaving your car with something open.

This is how every Lexus is.

park > open door > car off = chime

park > car off > open door = no chime

Yeah you are right. I re-read the original post, and I think my reading comprehension was off that day.

Thanks for the help. You guys described it exactly. The only warning light on the dash is door open.
