Default Should I trade cars with my mom 😅

I was joking around with my mom not too long ago and I jokingly said we should trade cars and to my surprise she said she would consider it, she has a 2017 CLA 45 AMG - which has the most powerful 4 banger and I used a dragy and got 0-60 in 3.8 sec and the quarter in 12.3, it has 28k miles and Ik for a fact she never used anything besides comfort mode. While I have a 2018 ultra white IS 300 RWD f-sport with 7k miles I’ve put about 2-3k in mods and I really do love it and think it does look better then her car (metallic grey with black out package and APPLE PLAY), but the only problem I have with the car is it’s sooo slowwwwww. What is y’all a opinion?

That is purely a personal decision based on your needs and want. If acceleration is your main attraction to vehicles, I think you have your answer as the IS300 is far from a potent accelerator but there are many other factors that makes the IS very appealing. In the end, I would make a list of pro and cons to each and then assess the decision based on teh factors you have identified important to you. Personally, a friend of mine has a Mercedes and while I love certain angles of the car, I feel overall the IS stands out more and I just couldn't get over how much plastic rattles there was in his vehicle.

I'd get the AMG just for the noise it makes. The 2L turbo in the AMG is one of the best vs the IS which is bottom of class for a 2L.

While I am a Lexus man for life and I would never buy a Mercedes, I'd take the trade up until the warranty is about to go out then get rid of it, and get another lexus. AMG's are pretty sweet.

You have to trade payments too? what's her payment vs yours?

Like others have said, if acceleration is a big deal to you then the AMG is a obvious choice. Consider the things you like and dislike about both of them and then make a decision.

Nobody buys a 3IS for speed without modifications and even then it’s the IS 350 or 300 AWD that you can modify to be decently quick. There’s a reason Toyota/Lexus makes most of their cars slow. It’s not for fun lol. The more power/strain on a drivetrain the faster it will go out. Sure you can beef up the internals but we all know the German’s track record for longevity and reliability. Way too much plastic used and their electronics are a mess in the long run. But 100% that car would be much more fun to drive speed wise and I would only drive it until the warranty went out as stated by somebody else above.

She is your mom so she just let you drive the AMG and she drives the slow Lexus.

There's no wrong answer here. If you like the AMG more, and she prefers the Lexus, then I say go for it. Perhaps you could do a trial period. Loan her your car for a week, and you take hers. Then you make a decision based on how that went.

In terms of appearance, IMO, the 3is is a beautiful car but performance wise lacking behind most of the competition, the Benz is the opposite to me, ugly as hell but absurd performance.
380+ HP out of a 2.0 turbo is just nuts.
0-60 in high 3’s low 4’s is FAST.
To put that in perspective, that’s the same 0-60 as a 2011 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti.

2nd the trial period. I'd love to get in an AMG just for a week with the possibility of trading up (for free?).

I had a 14 CLA 250. Not nearly as fast as a CLA 45, but a very nice car. I had no problems with it at 41,000 miles. I totaled it in October.
I didn't have a lot of miles admittedly. I think the CLA is a beautiful car. I got better mileage than the IS 200 I currently have, but again,
not a 45. As others have said, swapping for a short time would be a good idea. Does she have the extended warranty on the Benz?
A wise thing to have. The CLA will not be as dependable in the long run, but a lot of fun to drive. The 45 is very fast indeed.
Nice to have two great choices!

Wow didn’t expect so much input, thanks everyone for you thoughts

what me and my mom are thinking is just swapping insurance so the trade wouldn’t cost me anything other then that, although her car needs to new tires($400) and is due for a brake change but I can probably get her to pay it😅

the only thing that I’m worried about is her warranty which runs out end of next year, while on my 2018 IS I have the extended warranty, which is refundable if I don’t hit those miles or time period. If I were to trade should I buy the extended warranty for her cla 45 just to have?

the main things that make me want it is all the options- especially the exhaust, CarPlay, 19 inch wheels, race mode, and it it gets better mpg then the 4 banger in the IS - it’s pretty much speced to the max

My personal opinion, under warranty, yeah do the trade, but not under warranty = no. Mercedes are super luxurious and nice tech, and the AMG is fast, but they are not reliable and expensive to have worked on.

So either get the extended if you can, or only do the trade for a year, or pass.
