3G NETWORK RETIREMENT Oct 2022

I think it's pretty reprehensible that they're not going to make any type of retrofit available. We love our 2017 RX450, but I won't buy another Lexus because of how bad the entertainment/nav system is, coupled with the fact that the system has actually gotten worse over time while the rest of the tech industry is conditioning us to expect upgrades over time. As a luxury brand, one would expect Lexus would treat their customers a little better.
There are people who will have bought 2018 RX model leftovers in 2019, who will find that after three years (2022) basic functionality like remote start no longer works.
The least Lexus could do would be to unblock remote start from the keyfob. The hardware supports it, but Lexus disables it unless you have Enform, which is what's going away.

They could even come out with a 5g or other replacement unit, who knows. Not worth the brain cells worrying about it.

I could be wrong, but I think 2019 RX was the first year they changed the system. We bought our 2017 in early 2018, and I recall that the reason we didn't buy a 2018 was availability and also that there was no physical difference between 2017 and 2018.

Just saw this email. I’m extremely mad and disappointed at Lexus for continually taking away reasons why I bought this car in the first place. Unlike older vehicles, you can’t just rip out the deck and replace it. The infotainment system is the other half of what ties the driver to the car and it has been abandoned since day 1. It was also slow and buggy since day one so I never even really had a good experience with it to begin with. The only thing patches seemed to do was to take away features instead of fix what was broken without giving a comparable alternative. Removal of 3g services with zero retrofit/upgrade options is **** poor customer service. It’s a terrible parting gift from Lexus for those who are just finishing off the final payments to vehicles. This will probably be my last Lexus I’ll ever buy.

I'm pissed off. The system will be obsolete before my warranty is up. Pretty sad if one of the much-advertised features of the car will stop working before the warranty is over.
It's completely Lexus' fault for those who say it's not. 3G was on the way out years ago. As soon as 4G was available and commonplace they should have and could have upgraded everything.

This is irritating to me. I use the remote start all the time, and will probably get rid of the car and not buy another Lexus because of stupid little stuff like this. Still shocking to me that a Japanese car manufacturers tech seems to behind the times.

Thank you for contacting Lexus about your 2012 RX 350.
We have conducted research on your behalf and confirmed that there will not be any upgrades available to make your 2012 RX 350 work on newer 4G cellular infrastructure

The Japanese are way behind the Germans and Americans on tech at this point. Have you seen whats available on the new BMW, Mercedes or Teslas in terms of infotainment and driver assistance technology? Lexus isn't even comparable to the old BMW MMI much less the new stuff. Even the latest Acura and Infiniti stuff isn't up to snuff. Japanese were asleep at the innovation wheel in the last decade...
