I contacted Lexus asking if the fob method will still work when 3G is shut down and got the cookie cutter response
“Thank you for contacting Lexus.
We appreciate the opportunity to assist with your Remote Connect inquiry.
There has been no communication at this time that the key fob functionality will be able to continue with the 3G discontinuation. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
so im going to take that as a “No”. Pretty frustrating.

I got an email today from Lexus which I found a bit funny as it was a notification that my Lexus Enform services had lapsed and a spiel as to why it's great to have and a link to reactivate. I let it lapse on my 2016 since it's going to be discontinued so no sense to keep on paying for it. Also throughout the entire email, including the usual disclaimers at the very bottom, there is no mention at all about the 3g network retirement later this year.

All push button Toyota vehicles have remote start capability. Whether it's a Camry or an IS. Factories lock this functionality and there is some way to activate it (I'm not sure of the logistics) but, they have $150 kits on Amazon that you hook up to your car and it programs your OEM key fob to remote start the car. I am getting a COMPUSTAR remote start installed in my car next month and the tech said that I will have remote start functionality. It's strange, I'm not sure why Toyota would do this but remote start services are offered at the Lexus dealership costing on average $300

Some companies that make cars want to help car owners with a 3G problem, but other companies don't.
Unfortunately, the latter includes Lexus

This can already be done via Techstream.

your response was that we could use Techstream to enable the key fob restart start. my ask if that if you could share the link or details

Yes, there is a settings combination in TechStream where you can do this. I had these settings in my 17IS300 but I already traded in the car. The RC has a third party security alarm system that came with remote start so I didn't have to do it for this car.
But as far I remember, it's around the remote starter menu where you need to make changes.

I agree. My brother bought a 2016 Camaro and GM switched to 4G in 2015. No excuse for Lexus to wait until the 2019 model year to switch to 4G. Lexus is always behind the times when it comes to the latest technology. They refused to add Apple Car Play or Android Auto until recently and only because customers demanded it. I for one will be trading off my 2016 ES350 to maximize its trade in value. Will not buy another Lexus.
People are being too naive when it comes to how easily they hand over their privacy and control over their lives, over some little perceived convenience.

The Weather Channel and Traffic density (Red/Yellow/Green corridors) are updated when tuned to an
HD Hybrid Digital terrestrial radio station. This service is free and will continue to work after 10/321/2022
when the 3G links disappear. Your 4G or newer phone will certainly work, Bluetooth calls and streaming
content will all be fine. The subscribed Destination Assist operators and Emergency assistance are what
will be not longer available. All 2017 models and 2018 GX's have the 3G transmitter.

Certain telecommunications providers have elected to discontinue 3G wireless services by the end of 2022, affecting select 2010-2018 Lexus Vehicles reliant on this network to provide Lexus Enform subscription services. As of October 31, 2022, at 11:59 PM CST, Lexus Enform Safety Connect, Destination Assist, Remote, and Service Connect subscription services will be discontinued on select 2010-2018 vehicles.

Since 2016, we Verizon have stated publicly that we are actively decommissioning our 3G CDMA network. Initially, we announced we would close down our 3G network in 2019. However, we extended our shut off date - first to the end of 2020 and now to the end of 2022 - in order to care for our customers and give them every effort to minimize disruptions to their service as they move to newer and more advanced technologies.
