Just picked up a '17 IS 200T F Sport w. 45k mi's & dropped it off at a Lexus dealer for oil/filter, air filters, & new floor mats. They called me later & told me the water pump had a leak.. that it's under warranty, but they'll keep the car for a few days until they get the part. I'm in a loaner. What do you guys think? A water pump leaking at 45k mi's?

Correct the water pump on my previously leased 2016 IS200T leaked at 25k miles. Other NX turbo users reported water pump leaks too.
Lexus wrote "gasket pinched" but I dunno if the gasket was pinched during assembly I think it would've leaked right away? Anywho, Lexus ended up replacing the water pump according to docs.

Water pump issue is common issue with Toyota/Lexus. I hear it as a common failure issue.

I had another Lexus all it needed was AC, Water pump, and radiator. Radiator maybe was my fault, dont ask. But mind you this was I think 120k miles.

Didn't hear much about the AC.
Can you share the model?

I've read of water pump leak issues on the NX forums a few years back. Haven't read of any water pump issues with the V6 engines on the IS though - granted these powertrains are approaching 15 years old now. Another reason to go with the IS 350.

I just had the water pump on my '16 200T replaced at 42k miles due to it leaking also. I guess it's a common issue.
The shop that noticed the leak told me it was likely due to the extra heat generated from my car being catless, but after seeing the replies in this thread I don't think that was the cause.

Remember the 8AR-FTS is not really a ground up design for its application. It was derived from an updated and strengthened Corolla block (or some similar model in Japan) IIRC. So that may have something to do with the design not really being up to par with turbo heat. Seems 8AR-FTS may need a water pump every 40-75k miles, or in the case of my particular car, 25k miles. I imagine it's not really a complicated DIY though once warranties start running out.

My 2017 also had what the dealer called seepage from the water pump onto the oil filter housing five months ago. Just brought it back to the dealer yesterday to have the water pump replaced and now they say it's just seepage and not a full on leak. So, they said they will not replace the water pump. What gives?

My 2014 250 was making noise in the front of the engine. You could hear the noise if you were next to a wall. I took it to an independent Lexus repair shop, and they diagnosed it as the water pump was starting to go out. They also quoted a price of about $700 to replace it. I ended up selling the car to a dealership, The car had about 52K miles on it at the time.

I have a 2017 IS200T and it making a very noticeable sound at 60,000 miles.
It got replaced under warranty.
Had it not been for the warranty, the total cost is ~$2,000 CDN (parts and labor).
But theirs a DIY on YouTube if you don't have a warranty, it doesn't seem that hard to replace.
