Default Tips to clean off rust from lug nuts?

As we all know, rust on lug nuts is just a normal part of life. Does anyone know a proven and easy method of cleaning them? I'm guessing procedure would differ depending if the lug nut is chrome plated or painted, and the severity of the rust.

What I had in mind was sanding it down and then maybe using a wire brush, then rattle can to paint it black. Doesn't have to be perfect.

Note: Yes, this is clearly just for aesthetic. Not concerned about durability as these are great.

Can you post a pic of your lug nuts? I wouldn't spray them black. that'll just peel and look horrible after 3 miles.

I think lexus sells black ones or you can get aftermarket. just make sure they have flat seats like stock.

and make sure they're grade 8 or better!

Oh wait ^ are those yours in that pic or is that what you want to buy? Are you using those with stock wheels? Or a/m?

Yeah those are mine in the pic (Hardness of 10.9!). They're only being used on my aftermarket set. My OEM chrome lug nuts also have rust on them though.

do you live by the sea? I've been in Cali my whole life and never got rust on my nuts.

Maybe coat them very lightly in some grease after you clean em up or get new ones. If it were me i'd just get new ones cause i'm picky like that. seems like you may be too.

Rusty nuts would be unsightly 😳
