whatever is most convenient. you stop worrying about these things when you get older. i just try to rotate between shell, mobil, chevron, mostly cause they're all that's around. costco is great too. it's all the same. no laboratory will be able to detect any meaningful difference between all the top tier gasolines over several tens of thousands of miles on your engine. same goes for oil. unless you race for a living.
besides today most if not all gas you see is top tier. just avoid those mom and pop stations in po-dunk towns where they may water the gas down.
gas today is heavy regulated and tested constantly for water content and other junk.
gas choice used to matter up to the 90s and maybe early 2000s but that stuff is moot today. but people still get riled up over it.

I'm surrounded by 3 Shell gas stations, so I tend to rotate between them depending on which direction my journey starts that day.
This way I avoid bad gas from random stations.
Obviously if I'm taking a long road trip I need to fill up where I am, but always try to stick with Shell whenever possible.
I've used Petro 94 in my bike out of necessity when out riding, and you can definitely feel a slight increase in performance and see better fuel mileage...but that's the bike...can't say you would get the same result from the car.

I shoot for the name brand Shell or Chevron.
But after extensive reading and seeing some 3rd party reviews...if I need gas now and time doesn't permit the search for my preferred...I'll go to a cheaper top tier place if its whats available. I used to go out of my way to find Shell or Chevron no matter what.
Like Arco here in CA or Valero, if its whats available now, its ok. If Shell is close, then I'll pass the Acro.
Like said I just avoid "Bob's Fuel" or whatever (sorry Bob).
Always 91 in an IS regardless.

Although I THINK they were the best, by a minuscule margin.
The ideas we have (myself included) that those brands are so much better is pure marketing.
Now Im no engineer. And some users have reported better performance. I've tried too for my KCLV. Just data I'm referring to.
