Yeah. Probably around $100-150 in tax. That's what I would pay if I were filling up my car.

I’ve never paid anywhere near that in my state. It’s always been under $100, even for newer cars we had. I paid $80 to update the tags on my LS and SC last week and was mad at how they jacked the price up. It used be really cheap.

Wow. And I was pissed that in IL our annual registration fee went up from $100 to $150.

A tax is a tax. They gonna get you one way or t'other.
Maryland is $280/ 2 years. More than $10/month for the privilege of driving.

Holy hell, but yeah Cali.

Here in Georgia its like $25 plus an $18 annual emissions test you have to pass before you renew.
$55 if you have vanity plates. (varies by type)

Default Renewal Fee in TX

2019 RX350.
All Texas residents pay about $79. /year for registration for passenger vehicles and pickup trucks regardless of age, value, color, etc.

Well, that we get in Commiefornia - highest taxation and nothing to show for it. Our roads are utter disaster (and it's not like we have rain or snow in So Cal except in the mountains), our DMV is a complete joke, our gasoline fees and taxes are the highest by far as well. Am I missing anything here?

BTW, DMV renewal in CA used to be capped at 1%, now it's over 2% of the car's value.

Just paid mine online today for a 2019 Toyota Avalon (touring trim). Cost was $451. They are now charging a fee for payment by cc/debit card which wasn't the case before.
Edit: forgot to mention this is CA DMV

At least the gas tax that people voted for was called the road repair and accountability act. I mean it wouldn't be California to collect a tax and use that fund for other projects, then come out with a tax hike and call it an accountability act so that the funds from that tax increase can actually go towards what it was originally meant for. Don't you love this great state?

If I recall correctly only VLF (Vehicle License Fee that's kinda deductible - not deductible really anymore for most as most folks do not itemize on Federal returns under TCJA) goes down by about 10% a year, all other fees stay put or increase.

And, yes, CA DMV now charges a CC surcharge. They used to encourage paying online so folks don't make their useless employees work

With vanity plates on both my cars, I get to pay the higher $164 rate here in IL (wife's car has only regular plates @ $151), so $479 total for 3 cars:
