PSA: Upgrading Battery Tiedown
Posting this as a PSA as this information was really difficult to come by.
My battery started going, so I opted to get the Optima Battery as it was the only AGM variant in my area. For whatever reason, Bosch discontinued their supply near me.
After I put it in, I noticed it looked terrible due to the smaller Optima footprint, and the bracket isn't really securing the battery.
Several other people have similar issues, noted here:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...a-battery.html
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...ent-issue.html
So I started searching for a solution.
The obvious choice is the Figs battery tie down, sources here:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/cl-...ry-bar-v2.html
http://shopfigs.com/v3/index.php?rou...v2+battery+bar
However, they are backordered for a month. Notice they mention the OEM bolt in both the thread and site, but with little specifics as to what that part is.
So I took a leap of (educated guess) faith and it works. The replacement bolt is from an ES, with the only difference having a threaded end instead of a hook.
Be sure to look at this thread for doing this replacement without entirely disassembling that area for understanding the mechanism:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ld-down-2.html
Therefore, here's the final solution that I chose:
Aftermarket:
OEM:
Bolt: 74408-30010
Nut: 90179-A0009 (this isn't a mirror of the one on the other side, but works the same)
And here it is all together with my dirty engine bay.
