It would appear that the new BRZ and GR 86 have the same side air vents on the interior as those in the 2021+ IS.






I don't think the Lexus influence ends there. The automatic transmission in the 86 is reportedly still based on a version of the Aisin A960E which dates back to the 2IS and 3GS.

So does this confirm a Lexus "UC" as people have speculated? I kid, I highly doubt the vents alone are any indication.

 

The inserts, yeah similar. Seems the IS has a silver nubbin at the end? or maybe just the light? and the center cents (the inserts) appear similar too. hard to tell from the pics though.

No, you're right. In the BRZ/86 the **** is black, and in the IS it is silver.

Yeah I hadn't noticed on the vents. They look similar, but I am not sure it's the same part. Whereas, the side vent inserts look identical outside the central **** color.

 

Mini Cooper has had that round vent design for years. It's nothing new. But they do look similar.

 

My 14 CLA 250 had similar vents too. I liked the look.

These vents are actually the same, however. That was my point. Round vents are obviously not new lol.

 

I kind of wish i was 25 again. i'd be all over the new GR86, though I think i'd probably get the Subaru version. that interior/driving position looks really fun. and the weight is really low. looks like it'll be a great car.

I think you should get the GR86 if you want it. It is a kind of car we may not have in a decade. I am actually high-key thinking about having something like the BRZ/86 as a track car or mountain run car if I can justify having a third car to the wife. But you could also very easily daily this car as long as you don't need a ton of room.

 

I just got my ES so I'll have that around. can't really justify a second car. I barely drive anywhere these days. Work from home.

i'm spoiled by the size of the ES and I don't think I can go back to a small car. You know how you get used to a big TV and you just want a bigger one? I'm already feeling like I need something bigger than an ES. But I know on paper, it's already massive. Just a perception thing lol.

Would be fun to rent for a weekend though. Maybe i'll check Turo.

 

ES is massive? I downsized to an ES years ago because my wife (who only drove those tiny Supras and Integras) “couldn’t” drive either of my early ‘90s Caddy or Lincoln, which I considered small compared to my previous ‘60s era Pontiacs. When time came to replace the aging ES, I chose the IS, because it just looked better than the ES. But I still yearn for a real ‘full size’ car.
