Default Retrofit Lane departure Assist to 2014 IS250

Hi everyone!

I just bought a 2014 IS250 AWD F-sport recently, this car is fantastic, I love it so much!

The only regret is that the car does not have Lane Departure Alert (LDA) and Automatic High Beam (AHB) functions even with the F-sport Executive Package in Canada. According to the specs of this model, I figured out that LDA& AHB only available on 2014 model IS350 AWD with Executive Package (not F-Sport version). It seems like LDA& AHB rely on the front camera only. I am wondering if I can retrofit those functions to my IS250.

The oem parts are available online, I think I just need to purchase the camera, accessories, replace windshield and switches on the panel and steering wheel. After all the parts plugging in, I can use Techstream program and activate the functions.

My only concern is that whether the wire of the camera preset on the roof, anybody knows? If so, the functions will be plug& play, such as adding intuitive parking assist function as RX forum discussed.

Does anyone know the wires on the roof or share any idea with me?

Thank you!

That's gonna be a wiring nightmare and not even sure your ECU will have the options available. Honestly, I wouldn't do it.
If it's really a must for you, find another car that already has the features, it'll probably even be cheaper!

Thank you for your answer @Answer!

Looks like I have to get rid of this idea and enjoy handling the steering wheel.

The windshield alone will cost you ~$2,500 CDN (windshield, misc. parts required for installation + installation and calibration for the LDA).
Not to mention, you'll have to wait a couple of months before it actually arrives.

That was my experience at least. The upside, I didn't pay anywhere near that thanks to a friend that works at the dealer.

BTW, even with LDA activated, you still need to handle the steering wheel as the car will ask you to hold it when it detects you are not. Honestly, that's an overrated feature IMHO.

My windshield has to be replaced due to cracks and the insurance will cover the cost. If I buy used parts, this is an opportunity to add the functionality at a minimal cost, the total cost will less than C$1k based on my estimate.

Is the LDA useful while driving on your experience and is it worth to add that function?

Thank you, George!

It's partly useful on the highway, but I would not pay a dime to have it if it didn't came with the car.
So no, in my opinion, it's not worth to add that function.

I tried LDA on a 2017 Corolla recently. Which surprised me was the steering wheel will automatic correct to center to keep the vehicle in the line when LDA was on.

In addition to the automatic correction, I think some of dashcams can provide the similar function as an alert to remind driver keep the vehicle in the line, LOL!

Thanks!

I used it twice:
First time when I got the car just to make sure it works (back in 2017)
Second time when they replaced my windshield, just to make sure it still works lol!

It's basically useless, if they could have taken this off and sell the car for less, I would have opted for that.

Thank you all!

I will purchase a dashcam with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) instead.

The Lexus IS does not have lane centering though. LDA on the IS will only 'bounce' the car back if you are going out of the lane completely.

This is for the 1st version and 1st facelift. I don't know about the latest facelift.

The 2021+ does have lane centering, but then again, it's not that useful..

Contrary to what people are posting in this thread, I think the Toyota / Lexus LDA is really useful. We own a 2021 RAV4 Hybrid which has that technology and on the NJ turnpike, it literally drives itself. You can watch a movie if you really wanted to.

The dashcam software you are talking about I believe are only able to work with Toyota / Lexus vehicles which already posess the LDA and radar cruise control tech.

^^ It might be different, because on my 2022 IS500, if I don't touch the steering for like 30 seconds it'll start to complain and ask me to hold it.
