Throttle controller

I'd prefer it be called Shift Powah, I'll have to offer my marketing services to them.
Does it make it downshift sooner when driving?

This is a throttle controller. It manipulates the throttle input signal sent to the ECU. So, if you think the stock throttle mapping is not to your liking, you could tune it with one of these. It doesn't add any power, but it can make the car feel more responsive.

I have heard use cases of these failing or the power going out. I know these have a safety switch and all but how reliable is this?

Just buy the reputable brands like TOM's or Apex'i. I would get Tom's since they've been making aftermarket stuff for Toyota/Lexus products and partnering w/ Toyota/Lexus for decades...

Man I miss throttle cables attached to throttle bodies and carburetors before that. We just got out of 2009 Infiniti G37S Coupe. It was still throttle by cable and steering was rack and pinion. I really hate throttle by wire and electric steering. If it were not for that sweet V8 sound I not sure I would like the IS. I am not looking forward to future of automobiles. I drive a 1997 Toyota T100 4x4 with Manual 5speed and 2016 LC200. The T100 is having more and more issues as time passes. The LC so far so good. Time to find a project truck from 1980 and build it how I want it. I don't want to deal with computers trying to decide what I want the car to do.
