Seems to be the case a lot when you ask the dealer or parts department a question.

And you were correct - I shouldn't have started my reply with the word 'nonsense' - my apologies. Thanks for the link - that was actually the reason I held off at first - but, as the article stated, those issues have been addressed. Admittedly increasing your attack surface is always a risk but, in the end, you gotta weigh the risks vs. whatever it is you're trying to achieve and I didn't feel the risks were something I wasn't ready to take on for what I wanted to achieve. Had the company dallied in fixing the issue I would not have trusted them to address issues in a timely manner in the future and wouldn't have gone with the RPlate. Ultimately, there's risk in almost everything, and if someone wants my car they'll find a way to get it. As inconvenient as that would be, that's what insurance is for.

The only reason I do no have them on my car now was the back order time, which from last December was about six months. The last time I was at the dealer, they said they had a pair come in for another customer much quicker. I go back to the dealer in about 4k miles and I will likely order a month out before going back in for service. It is a definitely an option for our cars, many of them come with it. Whoever told you it is not an option does not know what they are talking about.
I'm really curious what the plumbing looks like and how they might be added after the fact. Also curious about whether something changed in 2023 or not. Is your model a 2023 or previous year?

Until this came up my dealer and my contact at the other dealer typically agreed and were both reliable sources. This obviously creates an information tension between the two that I'm eager to get sorted.

The winter is getting close in the Chicago area so today I had new winter wheels and tires mounted and had my original BBS/tires stored until spring time. I say the new tires fill out the wheel wells nicely. Original size tires.

I have a 23'. It was available as a port installed or dealer installed option. Unfortunately my car did not have it installed at the port. Six month wait gave me the blues so I put it off. I will end up getting them though.

Since that's the case, I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and order them through my dealership and have them install the things as well. That way it's all on them. It'll be several hundred more, but the peace of mind will probably be worth it.

I always wanted to have those illuminated door sills and the trunk as well. But since these are port installed options, no wonder we cannot have control over them. Can I please know the price of them and the installation charges ?

TRD Door Stabilizer....improved steering input , but it sure makes closing door sound more solid, like a thud, instead of a clunk

I haven't asked my dealership if installation is included in the price, but they want $335 for the pair, while my connection at another dealership would get them to me for around $299. This ClubLexus thread seems to have a decent show-and-tell on roughly what's involved with installing them: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...r-sills-2.html

The illuminated trunk sill was something I wasn't aware of until it was mentioned here, so hopefully someone with them will chime in with info on that. FWIW, I did some searches for the trunk sill and could only find them for the IS 350 and other non-IS models, but nothing for the 500. I only mention it because the illuminated sills I found are actually two plates - left and right - the left says "Lexus" and the right says "IS 350". Again, someone with the proper IS 500 sills will probably have something more useful to offer in that regard.

-------------------------

Those door stabilizers are gonna be the next thing I do - even before the illuminated sills. Amazon order placed.

I'm more interested in the two leds that light up the trunk space.

Two? I just replaced the overhead light for my trunk with an LED and it was only a single light. Is there a second light somewhere?

I think the illuminated sills replaces the entire trim piece. On that trim piece there are two led lights. You can see it in the pic. The single led above in the trunk is kind of a joke. Even worse when it was a incandescent bulb. Haha.

That makes much more sense. I didn't even notice the extra light on the side in the picture - it's no wonder nobody mistakes me for Sherlock Holmes. For whatever it's worth, the LED replacement made the overhead light actually useful for me, but I totally understand what you're saying about how relatively useless it is in general. Having those lights on the sides would be much better. Looks like I'm adding the trunk sill package to my door sill order.
