What do you NOT like about your IS500?

Same, and same. I was getting about 21 MPG average in my IS 350. Here, 18.7 MPG so far. I've had it creep up to being over 19 MPG average a few times, but the average number falls off a cliff whenever I drive it spiritedly. That suggests to me that it is pretty efficient when not being driven for fun.

1. The way how the engine/transmission are tuned makes the car prefer to stay in the 2k-3k rpm range so badly, unless I really push it hard by almost flooring the gas pedal. The torque of this V8 is insufficient below 3k rpm - I have owned or driven almost all mainstream V8 sedans/coupes in the past decade, this 2UR-GSE + 8AT combination is one of the V8 powertrains that does not give me the feel of a V8. It reminds me the experience of driving the old Crown Victoria/Grand Maqruis. If I push it harder, it suddenly "explodes" and revs up wildly towards the redline, I do feel the power at this time but this defeats the purpose of a V8, because the only reason I want the V8 is for its broad torque plateau, especially the feel of enormous torque at low rpm. Rev up to get torque and power is what I expect for those 4-cyl cars instead.

the issues i have with this car is very minor and could've been offered by lexus. the 500 had everything the DHP package had minus the CF mirror caps and spoiler. the other thing i was bummed about was that the suede/alcantara feature was only available in incognito grey.
one issue, not dealer option, that sucks at the moment is when upgrading to BBK; the rear e-brake issue is real.
oil and tranny cooler would be nice if they were included, but there are kits available now as options.

I effing love this car. It’s my 5th Lexus, 3rd IS, and by far the best one I’ve owned to date.
My Gripes:
1. The 500 defaults to Dr. Jekyll mode. I would *love* the ability to permanently leave it in Mr. Hyde mode, as that’s how it’s driven every. single. time.
2. Headrests are not embossed with F Sport, yet a freaking RX F Sport has them?! That’s just gross and I’ll fix it soon. 😉😎
The attention this car gets is freaking next level, a dude today in a newer M5 said Blu was gorgeous. The other day in the Chik-Fil-A drive through, a lady yelled: “That’s my favorite car!” 🥰

You’re lucky. Californians are stuck up. That never happens here cause if you’re low income, you’re stressed as **** and don’t have energy to compliment other ppls cars, and if you’re not low income you already own a Porsche and don’t give a second glance to a Lexus.

All the IS5 had to do for me was be better than the trade I let go of....(GR Supra). Done!
My only issue is with the CD player. I am one who is happy it's still there.....BUT.....if you're gonna offer it, at least give me an internal 256GB drive to rip my discs to. Don't make me carry around my book of discs. 🤪
Everything else is pretty much what I expected. It's still new to me, so I have no issues with brakes or bumper separation and the mufflers are long gone. This is likely the last new car purchase I will ever make.

The whole "What's that got? A V-6 or a four-cylinder?" I've gotten essentially this exact question at least once a month since I've owned the car. It's funny because when I am just driving around, I like that. People won't know it's got the V-8 unless I gun it.
However, my neighbors had at least noted the quad exhaust before they started asking. "Hey now, that's got quad exhaust tips. What's that about?"

You just reminded me one thing that I both love and hate about this car.

They're old school. They expect functional. Honestly it's sad that "real" exhaust tips are seen as a cool feature for a new car. Kinda like a naturally-aspirated engine...
