I’ve been digging through the exhaust threads while waiting on my new IS 500 to be delivered to the dealership. Sorry if this has been asked before, but does anyone have any recommendations on which exhaust setup would make it sound closest to the LC 500?
My dad owns an LC, and I feel like the sound of that car is incredible. I also like that it can be as quiet as my LS 460 if you have it in normal mode and are cruising on the highway. I’ve had cars in the past with exhausts that drone, and that’s an absolute no-go for me. I know there’s going to be some noise with the 500, but I’m going to miss my LS and want to still have a car that will be at least relatively quiet when I want it to, then really open up when I feel like it.

Thanks!
Sounds like you want a valved exhaust. I think there are only a few out right now for the IS500, with the options being RR-Racing, GT Haus, and Apexi
I've heard a midpipe may get you to LC-ish levels of sound. However, I think most midpipe videos I've seen are non-resonated and honestly a bit harsh. Maybe a resonated one would work?
... I am thinking about doing it myself. I just want a little more sound, nothing too raspy or boomy.
The LC 500 sound is a combo of the exhaust and the intake. So it will never be an exact sound. The LC 500 has one of the best exhaust sounds next to the LFA. Not harsh or raspy, just awesome V8 goodness. The IS 500 is right behind the LC for me.
Most exhausts will produce a lower deeper growl. The LC500 sounds more whiny like a F1 car. I'm not sure that's possible to reproduce with anything behind the cats. Seems more like air intake or header-related if anything.

Well, the IS 500 is like 80% intake noise. The exhaust is pretty muffled.

That is the conclusion I have come to. Headers make the most difference towards that LC/LFA sound and then an X-pipe in place of secondary cats and resonators. No clue what does it in the mufflers. The Novel IS-F complete header-back system sounds most like the LFA sound to me.
If anyone has this midpipe, do us all a solid and find an LC for a side by side comparison .
after everything I’ve seen/heard, it does seem like a midpipe swap is the closest. The only issue for me is that some of them do sound too raspy on the videos.
To everyone who is replying, I know it’s never going to sound exactly like an LC unless you maybe pay TONS for a custom-built intake and exhaust. I’m just trying to figure out what’s out there that does the best job of getting that same kind of general “soul” from the engine sound. So many of the exhausts I’ve heard make it sound like a Mustang GT or something. Not a bad sound by any means, but it’s just not what this motor should sound like IMO.
For what it is worth here is how they explained the LC 500's sound on their press release in 2018...
The fast-revving V8 issues a stunning soundtrack amplified by a special resonance tube connecting the intake to the firewall, plus a standard Active Exhaust that rumbles and roars like a high-performance GT should. The driver can adjust the natural exhaust sound level via the Drive Mode Select system.
You'll notice the tube in the left. Obviously that only affects the sound inside the cabin. The intake splits into a left and right intake. This combined with a slightly different tune and different exhaust setup is all part of the sound. I'm not saying you can't do the LC 500 sound on the outside, you can probably get close. It's a different length exhaust path and it has an active component to it. Can't show you the back but here is most of it.

Thank you. Obviously it's a different car, so making it sound exactly the same would be very difficult - all I think is being asked is a somewhat similar tone and volume to an LC.
