Not that Lexus is likely to do it (they need to differentiate the F models from the others in multiple ways), but if it comes down to launch control, is it possible that it could be added via a software update? At the end of the day, launch control is an electronic function, no?
Most likely yes, but with traction it does nothing with an NA vehicle. With good traction, stabbing the gas will give you a good launch still. I was shocked to see that the fastest stock C7 guys all just left the car in tour mode and smashed the has from a stop, no launch control or pre-load on the converter. Our cars need manual mode as well.

+1. I can't tell you how many times I've seen journalists try to use launch control in the RC F TE where the car just does a burnout. Not very helpful.

Depends on the transmission too. A dual clutch like a PDK paired with an NA engine will benefit from launch control because it’s essentially dumping the clutch.
RCF is probably faster exactly why the is 500 is not an F. Launch control, suspension, and all the the other technicalities why they didn’t give this an F
I think they’ll be neck and neck, especially with the same Michelin PS4S tires. Jason Camisa said on a non-prepped surface (e.g. Not Magazine Style), the IS 500 is dead even with the Supra. In real-world antics that’s enough for me! 😎

They still slip the clutch right? The tach looks like it allows slippage for a brief moment to get the wheels moving.

I wonder if both cars just nail the throttle if the IS would beat the Supra. Turbo cars really benefit from launch control!

Agreed. I remember on my Mk7 GTI that it was impressive that it could do under 6 seconds 0-60 with launch control. However, I tried nailing it from a dead stop with no launch control, and it was more like 6.5 seconds, maybe more. Not that impressive - for front-wheel-drive, certainly not bad. But, the dual-clutch with launch control means it can really make the most of the boost and the traction available.
As for the Supra, yeah I think that it'd be pretty close without launch control. Those things are fast though!
