Default 0 to 60 vs RC F?

My apologies in advance if this has already been discussed, but I just noticed the 2023 RC F has the same engine as the 2023 IS 500 (producing the same horsepower and torque), weighs more (albeit by 11 pounds), but has an official 0 to 60 time of 4.2 seconds opposed to 4.4 seconds for the IS 500. So what is exactly is the reason for the acceleration difference?

Official number come with a grain of salt. For what it's worth, Motortrend does their own tests on their own course and the IS500 and RC F posted identical 0-60 and quarter mile times.

Does the RCF come with different tires ? Are they wider? Have no idea, just asking because the bridgestone potenzas on the 500 are too slippy. I would imagine if you're doing a 0-60 run, you'd have quite a challenge getting a good launch with these tires.

What transmission is in the RCF? Is it same gearing as the 500?

Launch control. RCF has launch control, IS 500 does not. Could be many different things, but that is the most likely.

RC F has slightly wider and grippier tires. It should be slightly better, a few tenths, maybe.

Gearing is the same for newer RC Fs. Pre-refresh RC Fs have taller gearing. Older cars (I believe 2019 and older) have a 2.97 final drive, and we get 3.13 in the IS 500 and newer RC Fs.

The gearing is slightly different in the Fuji Edition/Track Editions and Lexus claims 3.96 to 60. Those have a Torsen versus the TVD in the non track versions.

I don't think the final drive or gearing is different on those. Anything newer than 2019 has 3.13 gears. The Track Edition, incidentally, also came out for 2020.

Complimenting the revised throttle mapping is a higher final drive ratio that keeps the engine in the heart of its powerband. Moving from a 2.97 rear end gear to a 3.13 ratio gave the engineers the leeway to relax the throttle curve without giving up the sense of immediacy in the previous setup.

That is what i was referencing. The final drive ratio is different. It's not worth a huge drop in times but it's a couple tenths.

It's not just Track/Fuji. It's ALL 2020+ RC F models. They mentioned it was a specific change in response to customer feedback about the throttle being too sensitive. They wanted to maintain a sense of acceleration without compromising the linearity of the throttle. That is why the IS 500 also has 3.13 gears - it's just inheriting the RC F's setup.

True, I just remember a Lexus rep making a big deal about the track edition and the rear diff and the final drive ratios versus the regular RC F. They probably got a little over excited on the "track" part. The brochure does not seem to make any deal about ratios, just lighter weight.

They claim 0 to 60 of 4.2 for the RC-F and a 0 to 60 of 3.96 for the Fuji Speedway Edition in the 2021 and 2020 brochures. It shows a 0 to 60 of 4.4 seconds for the RC F in 2019 when it made 467 horsepower and had the different ratio.

RCF is probably faster exactly why the is 500 is not an F. Launch control, suspension, and all the the other technicalities why they didn’t give this an F

Not that Lexus is likely to do it (they need to differentiate the F models from the others in multiple ways), but if it comes down to launch control, is it possible that it could be added via a software update? At the end of the day, launch control is an electronic function, no?
