Default Power Folding Mirrors

Anyone ever try a retrofit from another Lexus model to change out the mirrors to power folding on the IS500?

I know that would involve a replacement of the panel where the window switches are at, but wondering if the wiring is there or not.

I read somewhere on the forum, it will not work. The wiring is not there or something to that effect.

from what i understand, there is a pig tail in place but the actual wire harness that sends the power to the pigtail needs to be purchased and installed. i've been thinking about doing this mod since i bought my bucket but have other priorities. one issue or thing that's different is the resistance of the actual mirrors themselves. on the IS, you actually have to put some force into folding the mirrors and you hear a click. on my '17 RX, that has auto folding mirrors, the mirrors are a lot easier to fold.

Take this with a grain of salt as I don't have any first hand experience but from my research on this topic, what I have read for other models is that it's not only about the wiring but also the control module the car has. Lexus disables the auto folding function on models where it is not available so even if you get the correct mirror, switch and harness, the module won't send the command to auto fold when the car is locked/unlocked. From what I have read, this isn't something that can be coded with techstream either. The button to manually fold should still work once all the parts are present though.

For me, it's not worth the cost and effort if there is no way to get the auto fold function.

A member named Nigel was able to add power folding mirrors to his pre-facelift RCF (was not an option). Maybe he can chime in.

Almost did this to my tacoma. Tacomas were never offered with power folding mirrors until a third party made a kit. It's a pretty involved mod trying to retrofit something yourself. Trying to source an actuator that fits and mounts, then you have to run wire for a switch/power, then you to find a switch and find where to mount the switch. Me perosnally, unless it looks OEM, I wouldn't do it. Would def be nice to have.

Reading this, it sounds like the 2024 MY IS350 FSport will have a memory package controlling the mirrors. So yes to power folding mirrors?

No mention of it on the IS500 though...

This makes me angry if so!

The Memory Package is the three buttons on the door that remembers up to three driver's seat positions, your side mirror positions, and steering wheel; it's not power folding mirrors. It's part of the current Performance Package on the IS 500.

Related/unrelated question. Is the reverse memory side mirrors common knowledge?

I thought this was a cool feature.

Like when you put the car in reverse and the mirrors dip down?

Yeah. I had no idea until I saw a video for it. i knew about the normal driving memory setting, just not about the reverse.

Yeah very cool. Even with all the cameras and surround view I still prefer the good ol mirrors, especially near curbs!

Yep! Exactly. I still don't know how to gauge how close i am to an object with just looking at the 360 camera. Nothing beats my eyeballs, mirrors, and knowing exactly where my car is.

i don't believe there is a way to activate reverse scroll mirrors. you can program another position for them to go down after shifting to reverse; just use one of the buttons that isn't programmed.
