Low RPM chirp
#31
There has been a lot of discussion over on FB about certain gas etc causing chirping in the engine. Many people who use COSTCO seem to be getting the chirp. What gas are people using? I’ve maybe filled up 10 tanks with Costco? All the other ones have been from BP and I don’t think have the chirp but going to stop using Costco now.
the manual does say even with 91 the engine might have some minor detonation and its normal. I wonder ifCostco 93 octane still chirps.

Anyway…21K miles, I only use BP/Shell, and no chirping. It’s just the luck of the draw either way I suppose. I will say though…wherever you go…put the top grade in your 500. Goodness.

I use QT gas or Costco gas both of which are top tier. So other than going out of town and not having access to one of these All my cars get gas at those two places. I have had zero issues with Costco and my extended family would say the same on their cars also.

At the end of a Mini Cooper S test drive one time, I heard chirping coming from the front of the car although the engine was off. Turns out I hit a pigeon and it went in one of the brake scoops on bottom front of the bumper. I was able to pull the pigeon out and it flew away with a big smile on its face. Needless to say, it was one lucky pigeon, and I fixed the chirping sound coming from the engine bay .

IS500 Low RPM High-Pitch Whirring Sound
My car has a strange high-pitch whirring sound when engine is in low RPM - around 7-800 RPM. I took a video here:
- might need to use headphone to hear it as my iphone doesn't have the best microphone.
I thought it was DI fuel injectors initially but it goes away when engine is above 800RPM - sounds like part of the rotating assembly?
Dealer couldn't figure out what was wrong, so just want to see if anyone else has experienced it here.
Appreciated!

I can definitely hear it. Alex (arentz) and others have posted about this "chirp" noise. It seems to be a normal noise and nothing to worry about.
Here's vpar23's thread on the same issue. The one arentz started may be one page back but there's good info in both.
