Default Replacement Parts for IS500

I am planning on getting a Lexus IS500 and keeping it for the next 20 years.

I want to be able to refresh the vehicle by buying a new seat for it maybe 10 years down the line. How difficult will it be to find OEM parts?

Will it more difficult to find the alcantara Launch Edition seat than a regular black leather seat? How long do we expect to be supported with OEM parts whether interior parts or engine, suspecting etc.

^^ Usually OEM parts are available for about 10 years after the model is discontinued - With the Launch Edition, where it was offered for a MY 2022, that will give you a somewhat shortened availability from Lexus but again, I am sure there will be parts available elsewhere. I am planning on keeping my 2022 for 20 years but I suspect the 500 will outlive me anyway.

Toyota uses so many similar parts I don't think you will have to worry about repairs. There will always be aftermarket or "custom" support too. I'm sure someone will make seat motors and a shop can reupholster or repair a seat.

Technically the engine and transmission had been around since 2008, a lot lexus parts are shared like our front subframe is from GS, suspension parts are same if not similar to GS, RC and even 2nd gen IS, mirrors as many people know already, shared between LC, ES and UX, lists goes on...

Finding launch edition alcantara seats will be absolutely more difficult to source than regular black leather seats. Im assuming alcantara seats were only equipped in the launch editions, only 500 of those were made.

Not impossible, but will be hard to find.

This isn't the perfect comparison, but I had my 2008 IS F until June of 2023. Never had an issue getting any parts, including new leather for the front seats (~2021). This includes some parts that were 08/09 specific in 2020.

Same here... On my 2002 Jeep Liberty I'm just now starting to have issues finding interior parts but no problems engine/drivetrain/suspension. The good thing about the Lexus is if you start to have problems finding parts here, you can almost always find them in Japan.

In my opinion things don't get really tricky until a car is about 20 years old. My 99 LS is running into this problem. Some stuff you just have to settle for aftermarket at this point. Right now I'm more worried about the availability of gas at a reasonable price in 20 years.

Or gas at all with the gov pushing EVs and some cities banning ICE cars completely, although some are rethinking that strategy; our infrastructure is nowhere ready for that.

That part. 👏🏽

I’m driving my 500 until gas is outlawed or cars start flying. I’ve always been Team Jetsons! 😜
