Default Dealer has a 3k mile 2023 IS500

Trying to figure this one out. My local Toyota dealership has a 2023 IS500 F Sport with 3,100 miles on the clock. I know these cars aren't for everyone but being in the potential market for one, this makes me a bit nervous. Why trade in a car like this with 3k on it to a Toyota dealership? You would think you would take such a bath on the trade in...

Any red flags I should be aware of? Part of me thinks that there are issues with this car that the previous owner simply wanted to dump onto a dealership by trading it in.

A ton of people have traded in this car because it didn't meet their expectations, so it's not unusual to see a used one with low miles.
However, the IS500 has also had some issues in the past like exhaust leaks, separating front apron, fuel pump failure, and paint defects. It's possible this had one of those issue, but most likely wasn't the reason it was traded in. Regardless, it should include a 50,000 mile/4 year manufacturer's warranty, so you don't really have to worry.

With all that said, I would still pass on this and just get a new example. There are plenty of new IS500s for sale now and some with even deep discounts.

They may have decided they wanted to get a new Grand Sequoia for their family. Who knows. I've seen Corvette's and Vipers traded in for really boring mommy mobiles. Happens all the time. If the price is right there is no reason not consider it.

Add the VIN to your Lexus garage and pull up the maintenance history. Then you'll 100% know if the car was taken in for anything serious.

100% this. Ask if they know who owned it. One of the GMs of a big Toyota by me owns an LE. I wouldn’t be completely scared off. I’ve traded Lexus to Toyota dealers in the past. Look over the underneath really good.

I 3rd this… It’s an awesome way to do research on a Lexus.

It. could be a lease turn from an employee of Toyota. If they get let go or quit they have to buy/sell or turn in the car.

white on white is just so damn good, it just looks like a whole different class of car. Obviously that is what I have. lol

People trade in cars with much less mileage all the time. Situations arise, life circumstances change, another car catches their eye, FOMO, they realize the car is too small for their needs, etc.

I have picked up some CPO cars with as little as 1,500 miles.

A Lexus dealership near me had 2 used 2023 IS 500's, both around 2k miles. I asked why? The salesman said for one the woman who bought it wanted to get the TX instead and just traded it in and took the depreciation loss and CA sales tax loss. The other one was a lease that was broken early and paid all the fees just because they wanted something else as well.

Some people have too much money.

impulse buys happen all the time, even with cars. im guilty of that. bought a 22 is350, then turned around and traded that in to get the 500 a couple months later
