It is funny how many times the above video has been posted in this thread. I guess it is very popular.
It was a good video, though. I like that the author described the driving experience of each car in detail. Seems like a channel more orientated towards viewers who prioritize the driving over other things.
LOL...to be honest, I did not even read the thread. I found the video and thought IS500 owners would really like it. Came here and thought it would be best to post it in this thread. Thanks for pointing it out.
you are right, it wasnt a "fix", but i know they did updates to either the plate or sealant so it wouldnt happen as often in early mileage. it will still more than likely happen, but not lower mileage
I saw a video where the guy with gsf replaced the coolant to RED coolant instead of the pink and that is a fix. i havent looked into it any further

All good, you're like the fourth person to post it, so I think others felt the same way. And I agree, it's super good timing for that video to come out with this thread being opened.

I thought it was kind of boring. Sleepy Garage is a good name for his channel as he has low enthusiasm for the most part. The V8 did bring him some smiles though. Let's monotone through the video and use all the cliches and stock music for my Top Gear wannabe review. I'm a bit harsh because I have watched so many "channels" that exist out there and wonder how they get to touch cars for the purpose of video reviews.

Maybe I am getting used to even more boring channels lol.
I guess you're not wrong. He is pretty low key, to put it nicely.
There is 2 recent videos focused on this topic. It all boils down to what flavor you like both are fantastic choices I cross shopped both but settled on the Lexus with the RR racing cat back to enhance the experience a little. I do a lot of city driving so racing people is not really on the menu it's all about having a really nice V8 purr and the quality of a pure and solid engine. You have all kinds of choices when you spend roughly 60k for a car and many of them are much faster than this one. But in the end if you want a companion and not just a toy that will last a long time this is the one. Just took it to CO, up pikes peak then to Estes Park on a 2300 mile trip from TX and It was amazing on the stock exhaust and a Uniden R8 radar detector, thank God I had PPF on the front for the bugs.... Came back to the RR catback waiting for me and I've been spending roughly 1/4 a tank on it a day driving around with no objective in mind just letting the sound seduce me further with no regrets. If you want to impress people and say you are faster and have all the newest tech while kicking everybody's *** get the BMW. If you are over low-end acceleration 0-60 times but still value what a traditional V8 does and want to just smile and take in the quality of it all, like a fine Swiss made watch, then buy the IS500.

I am glad it has been shared so many times. We’re a pretty critical bunch, so the multiple shares says the poster struck home. The same thing happened on the FB page too. Love it. 😜
Still find it hard to believe the M340i makes 382 hp at the crank. At the wheels, yes, but not at the crank. It actually weights a bit more than the IS, yet even in the RWD version it still out-accelerates the IS by a wide margin. Gearing is a bit shorter, but not by much, so that cannot explain the differences IMO. And M340i has skinnier tires than IS.

i'm going to go with homie said in the vid stating that bimmer down plays the hp numbers...that and turbo is a helluva drug!!!
Wow, a friend and I were just having this conversation not too long ago. I think it's a result of multiple factors (EDIT: beyond the probability that BMW may be playing down their HP numbers). Power to weight is in the Lexus' favor, but the BMW seems to have the better balance/spread of torque and HP curves, and possibly better gearing as well. The Lexus doesn't make maximum torque until nearly 5K RPM and maximum HP until the 7K RPM range, squeezing everything into a couple thousand RPM at the top of its rev range. Meanwhile the BMW has more low-end grunt that gets it out of the hole and helps it start building speed quicker - then it transitions from its torque zone to its HP zone building speed across a wider RPM range. And it's possible the BMW's gearing may take better advantage of its power delivery curve. It's a great example of how power to weight is not the end-all, be-all of zero to whatever arbitrary target you want to set.
Took all your input (and those from the BMW forum) and went for a test drive of both cars this past Tuesday. Gave myself 48 hours to think hard about which one I enjoyed more. I got massively lucky that both dealers had 1 last car of each in exact specs I wanted (blue exterior, black interior). Needless to say, the IS500 won me over. Both cars definitely have their pros and faults, but at the end of the day, the IS500 just spoke to me and felt far more exciting. I just love the smoothness of the V8, even with a less-than-snappy tranny. There is more I can say about both, but the objectified facts have been already shared by you guys, and the subjective...well that's just for me.
Picked her up last night. CDK Global outage was a nightmare - everything we had to do with paper. But it's home now and can't wait for a real drive after I'm done with work.
