You are correct, there is no longer a shortage due to supply chain issues (for the most part). Everything now is dealer based. Lots of cars are brought in after a deposit has been placed. This helps to keep the lots look empty. They had the market by the ***** before. Now, they just have a tighter grip. I equate this to why Toyota has one of the best resale values on the market. Some of it is just from producing super reliable vehicles. Most of it is because you'll never see a $10k rebate on a Tundra. Toyota does this on purpose. Chevy, Ram, Ford - they are all guilty of throwing out $7-$10K rebates in random months. As soon as they do it once, it sets the resale bar $7-$10k lower for the make/model.
Every dealer in the country now knows the best way to get people to buy a car is to tell them they need to wait for it. Most people have adapted themselves to immediate gratification. From a business standpoint, it is absolutely brilliant. There is a small group of people who will refuse to give in, but until they outweigh the vast majority ---- the house wins, and will continue to do so.
Also, everyone should keep this in mind. From my experience (as it was commonly said at every dealership I worked) - the happiest customers were the ones we stuck it to the hardest. The ones that left miserable typically got the best deals. So more times than not, if you left with a smile on your face ---- we (past tense) really enjoyed it... lol.

I found my Mica Blue IS500 on the website motorcloud.com I had been looking everywhere for future shipments with no luck but this website seemed to have everything coming into the US. I should have mine in a couple weeks after buying it 4 states away and having it delivered

I don't tell them I'm paying cash, that's the worst part. I have the exact same line every time, it goes in the opening email once I verify the car exists and get the basic questions out of the way:
"I am ready to talk numbers with your finance manager/whoever can assist me with putting a deal together"
Only time cash is mentioned is after price is set and I have it in writing waiting for my signature in-person, and I'm showing up with a check. That's been the cases with last second "oh we're adjusting, while you were on the plane the market boomed and this car is now 3k-4k more." I think they're hoping I'll just cave and pay what they want. Joke's on them, last minute flights home are expensive but not 5k. In other cases, when I'm trying to do the whole purchase online (if I can't make it to a location due to work schedule), I will get directed to their financing manager who offers me the rates, and when I tell them I am paying cash the dealer goes dark on me.
This is absolutely neurotic, but I ended up building a program that tracks and plots prices of IS500's that get listed and are viewable on Autotempest. It factors in trim, mileage, distance, price, color, etc. This is the graph of the list prices as of like 2 weeks ago, with slight adjustments to the prices based on whether or not the cars have the BBS' or Enkei's (I've had like 3 dealers tell me it adds 3k to the value, so I figured I may as well assume that ALL dealers think like that)

I did a double-take when I read your post, since I think it's pretty much impossible to have ever bought an IS 500 with the BBS wheels new for $61k.

Sorry to nitpick, but "MSRP" refers to the cost of the car as suggested by the manufacturer... when new. So, if you bought it from CarMax, the MSRP is going to have some effect on the residual value of the used IS 500, but the price CarMax is selling it for is not the MSRP.

My local dealer currently has 9 on the lot, 3 each Caviar, Ultra White and Infrared. When I bought mine about a year ago there were only 3 and got mine for $1k off MSRP. The big fight was for my trade-in 2020 NX300h with only 12k miles, they were offering $26k and got them up to $39k. It wasn't easy and walked out several times only to be brought back inside to continue dealing. I'd say be ready to walk out, they need the sale as much as you want the car.

Actually they have 12 including 1 Incognito and 1 Ultrasonic Blue. Guess it's not that way on the mainland? Honolulu Stock

I don't think JM or Longo would even have that kind of inventory.
