The V8 is back: IS 500 F SPORT Performance

As much as I comment on the IS500, thats exactly what I did. My dealer placed my order for a fully loaded IS350 with all the packages and options, and the carpet mats and illuminated door sills and it came out to $56,210. I'm aware that I could get an IS500 base for only $1000-$2000 more, or a Premium IS500 for $7000-$8000 more, but that's only the initial part. I then got to thinking about cost of ownership and thats what made it clear for me.
The IS500 will:
- Require more gas, especially with how I would be driving it
- Require more expensive oil changes at 5000 miles instead of the 10000 miles on the IS350 (I will probably do it at 5000 anyways since im gonna care for this car more than I do for my girlfriend)
- Probably have higher insurance premiums
- 2 Piece Rotors are expensive when the time comes for a brake job
I decided that a V6 IS350 is more than enough for me especially since I'm coming from a 2016 Toyota Corolla Special Edition with 132HP and a 0-60 time of "Eventually". I will say however, you will have very similar wait time on an IS350, so if you're making the change in hopes of getting it sooner, I wouldn't count on it.

I am not so sure its the wait I care about as I still have 6 months before I payoff current car. I am just not sure I "need" an IS500 over the IS350. I alreay have a weekend driver and would kinda feel bad driving the IS500 everyday.

^^ I agree, all driving style being equal, I would expect about 2- 3L/100km more than the IS350 AWD. Checking the RC350 AWD ratings and that of the RC F, that is a good indication on the difference. Mind you, who will not want to smash the pedal on this puppy!?

The President of my company sold our building, so I no longer have a 60 mile round trip daily commute. I’m down to 36 miles a week mostly to the gym, so it’s easy to justify this purchase in the face of higher gas prices.

The biggest things to be aware of are the rate you gain speed and then getting used to that rate of speed. When you floor it to pass some derps on the highway you can break 100 mph pretty quick! My poor little ES would still be gently pulling through 3rd gear at 75 when the C7 would be a 1/8 mile up the road doing 110 lol
I dont drive much so for me I will still have yearly oil changes, not based on miles, and poor city milage. My ES is usually at 16-17 mpg city because there are so many freaking stops here. If I get lucky and catch more green lights plus dont let the car above 2k rpm I can get it up to 20 mpg. That is annoyingly slow though. I dont think it'll break the bank if I drop down to 14 mpg in the IS. Gas cost is totally worth it

So I have finished watching (and drooling) over the latest review from Sarah and it highlights why this car has me so torn. The rational side of me said that I don't need this car and there are a few things that irk me and makes me feel I would be much wiser to just keep my IS350, pay it off and drive it to my nursing home. However, seeing the smile and passion it generates on everyone's face who drive it, the fact we all know it is the end of the line for the V8 and ow intoxicating it sounds, the kid in me says get it!
One way or the other, I could have regrets in the decision I make however, as my wife pointed it out, it is best to buy it, and if I regret it, I can always sell it especially given the state I keep my vehicle...If I don't get it and regret it, these things will be gone and not produced anymore. I am very lucky to have a wife who supports me in my passion for cars, that I am at a stage in my life when I can easily afford one of these and still young enough that I can enjoy it....although youth is always relative right?!?
Bottom line, this was a review that pushed me back to the "OMG I want this car" and I had a chuckle when she mentioned how refreshing it was to have one without the sunroof...(lol)
